How many mags are "enough"
As my title states how many mags are really enough?
because my current set up holds 15 mags and on average per game (both milsim and skrim) i might use at best 5. in my recent memory my record is 8 AK low. so, where do some of you draw the line? personal collection 12 AK LC 3 KSC USP full size |

3-4 pistol
5-6 M4 mags (100 rounds each, max) From time to time I've used them up completely in a skirmish, but never in a milsim. |

I carry about 300 rounds on me at any given time, in 6 or 7 mags. I also don't hose on auto or do 50 "controlled bursts" in a row with 1/2 second separation like many people seem to do these days.

I carry 8x85 round midcaps.
If I'm playing milsim style, semi and targeted shots, I use 3 maybe in a game. If I'm having fun and rock'n'rolling a lot I'll use 6 or 7 of them, then switch back to semi for the last mag.

id say 5 mags is more than enough for indoor games, 9 for outdoor games. i usually carry 5 low cap AK mags on me for indoor games, 2 in each pocket, 1 in the gun. (yeah its ghetto but at least it doesnt slow me down) outdoor games usually last longer, so youll need more ammo, incase you get into an intense firefight or a respawn game where youll use more ammo than usual. some fields cap how many mags you can use. if you dont mind carrying tons of mags, id go with real cap mags, cause fields allow you to carry as much as you want.

are you sure it's not the game host setting the game parameters? usually specific milsim games will run a point system for mags which limit how much ammo you're allowed to carry making it more realistic and eliminates the mag ticklers/spray and pray folks. |

I like to have around 300-400 rounds on me. I'm far from a sprayer so i might use 100-150 of those.

I carry 4 highcaps in My Chicom, only because it will last me way longer than the day, and 4 midcaps wont do it. And no, ive never used them all, and i dont spray. :P

Back in the days where I was much bigger (hence a bigger vest, more room for pouches) and was acting support gunner, ran my M249 on motorcycle batteries and was trigger happy, I was carrying 18 lowcaps (68 rounders) + 3 boxmags (2500 rounders each, one mounted on the gun, 2 spares). Not to say, this was heavy as hell, impractical and I sounded like a friggin' rattlesnake when running. But what the heck, the role of a support gunner ain't to run around and do fancy moves, it's all about putting as much rounds in the air as possible so your squad can move on...
Everyone tought that this was excessive & useless until that game about 6 or 7 years ago where I had to reload the whole lot middle-day, and most of it was came back empty again from the second half of the day, for a grand total of over 17000 bbs shot that day. Side note, one of the good thing of running a M249 on a remote motorcycle battery, I didn't have to recharge even with the excessive of shots taken. Now, being 170 lbs instead of 290 means a smaller vest, less pouches. Also, with age my wisdom grew and my game style changed. I still carry alot of mags, but only realcaps, and never more than 16 (total 480 rounds), plus 3 mags for the pistol (AEP or GBB). That's for military-style outdoor gaming. For police-style CQB games, I usually run with 8 MP5 realcaps, plus the same 3 mags for the AEP or GBB.
