Internet guessing at it's best...LOL

I made them out of brass.....drumroll....because I happened to have a piece of scrap brass round stock that fit the bill. Nothing more precise or premeditated than that.

If the piece happened to be aluminum...I would have used that (although the stuff I have is kind of "sticky"...and tends to gall). Etc....for steel.

Didn't have to be brass. My spec was "whatever" (but metal).

Well, okay I did maybe in fact state I 'preferred' brass but only because it's the same material as the other part I was using and I refuse to learn new things.

Did some tests - they were not encouraging, but not horrible either.

I used a Maruzen APS2 with no hop-up. 90 foot range.

The custom ammo grouped worse than any regular BB (tested against Intruder Shop 0.28, Madbull precision 0.28, and Straight 0.43).

Good news is that the ammo wasn't tumbling when it hit paper, and the recovered ammo was still in one piece (didn't break apart).

I'd like to try with a rifled barrel if I can get my hands on one.

the problems is that a normal BB gets its stability from the backspin, that this BB cant get

Which is why he's already stated he'd like to get his hands on a rifled barrel.

At the projectiles weight, it would be more likely to cause the thing to tumble; still worth a shot I suppose.

No idea how I would reliably/repeatedly mold rifling marks (like on a shotgun slug) into these things, but one way or another it can probably be done.

Maybe a tanio koba twist barrel would do the trick, but it's not "real" rifling really.

All tests were with no hop-up applied to the regular BBs. They still grouped better.

.28 Intruder Shop BBs highlighted

.28 Mad Bull "Precision" BBs  highlighted

.43 Straight BBs highlighted

.48 Custom rounds highlighted
(Note that it's almost two "groups" - possibly irregularities in molding them...? Either way it's clearly worse.)

try instead of a cup design on the back, maybe fins, like shotgun dart slugs, if the TK twist doesnt work

figure out your twist rate first.

there are a few calibers in the correct size, but they won't be cheap or practical at this point.

best way would be to get a button made to your spec and apply it to an inner barrel.

Oh, if a twist barrel doesn't do the trick (and I am not sure it will) then I will consider this particular experiment to have run its course. I have no interest in, oh, button-rifling my own custom barrel blanks. I am an extremely lazy man after all and that sounds not only like work but also suspiciously like I would have to learn new things.

So is this project dead?

As an aside the TK barrels just create a cushion to float the BB down the barrel, no spin. It wouldn't seem like they're bouncing since there are no keyholes.

That said I have a MGC pistol with a twist barrel and no hop. If you want to keep testing you can mail me a few and I'll setup a bench and fire a few groups.

I haven't been able to get my hands on an actual rifled barrel (and am not likely to) so nothing else has happened.

Interesting side note is that I tried firing just the "tail" of the custom rounds (which look like a cylinder with a cone-tip on the front and an inverted cone on the rear) and they flew EVERYWHERE. Like way off course even 20-30 feet out from the muzzle. They must flip and tumble like mad all by themselves.
