Why strive for realism in any way shape of form if your not going to follow through?
Why not just wear paintball jerseys? They are certainly better performing then BDUs.
I guess my point is, for me at least, I try not to pick-up any bad habits playing airsoft that would possibly transfer over into my other shooting activities. That and since we mostly all have gear there isn't any point to the taped-mag non-sense.

Tape two mags togeather. See how much faster it is just to flip and reload than it is to take the mag... put it in a drop pouch... pull the velcro off the vest... take the mag out... put...

Ah, this is pointless. The practically is so firm it's not worth discussing. :P

two mags stuck together saves you the time of taking a mag out of a pocket and putting it into your gun and then putting the empty mag back in the pocket

aw friggin kook kinda beat me to it

personally i would prefer to have mag clamps instead of tape but unfortunately i dont own one nor do i like the look of an extra mag sticking off to the side on any of my guns

dude Spetsnaz soldiers tape their mags together so isn't that "striving for realism" as you put it? it's also very helpful in reloading, so you umm fail

I will conceed that using an AK varient and without any form of load bearing gear the taped mag can be slightly faster for one mag change. But using any form of well thought-out gear plus a weapon that doesn't involve pivoting the mag to insert it your going to be MUCH faster reloading conventionally. It's the lack of drop-away mag release on the AK that really slows down the process in my opinion and yes I've handled RS weapons with similar ergonomics; namely the CZ58.
I don't see a taped mag being much faster than this:
YouTube - ak magazine change
YouTube - AK-47 Magazine Change
If taped mags were any quicker you'd see it in tactical rifle matches, which you most certainly won't. It's all about muscle memory, which is all about practice.
But I'm finished with the hijack, please continue posting pictures of your lovely workhorses!
Cheers,
Grant

And down goes your mag into the grass. Impractical

Gotta draw a line somewhere between what's realistic and what's practical. This is airsoft, not Iraq.

I dunno about you but I don't really care about two tapped mags being an issue at all. Really, there shouldn't even be a reason for you to debate it. It works, and it's effective. (cost effective too, no mags to lose in the 'muscle memory, drop my mag in the grass "oh shit where is it?!" theory)

I call BS on that until you find a picture of it, because I've never seen a reference to it and I'm a bit of a Spetsnaz affectionado.

As for loosing mags in the grass: same thing happens when you make that second mag change. Ideally you would only be doing a speed-reload under fire and would not care about the mag at that point. Shooting stops, mag goes in the dump pouch.
It is more a fault of the AK mag attachment system that makes controlling both mags during the change difficult but not impossible. It's just much easier with most other weapons.
If you going to tape the mags then tape them both upright and use a spacer, you'll change even faster and keep just out of your mags/protect the feed lips on the RS. I personally hate mag doublers (at least on the MP5) but it's a decent solution.

Tis a shame none of the pics work except the first which doesn't display which unit he's from, I have yet to find any in my own searches (you got me going on it).
Most of the time over here blue tape is used for mags with blanks in them, it would appear to have a different significance in Russia.
Back to the subject and change your mags however is most comfortable for you that is the critical thing.
