Ok, here is my basic suggestion:
CA M15A4 Rifle (Full length M16 with removable carry handle) $500-650? TM 4 Pos. Telestock - $60? Gaurder Elcan - $170? Then paint the forgrips, pistolgrip and telestock with Krylon camo sys. OD paint. That will give you a very, very basic C7A2. It will not be the most authentic, however it is the most cost effective. If ou find a need for something triad-esq, Gaurder makes a decent knock off, though it does not look at all like the Colt Canada/Diemaco Triad. personaly, i'd avoid it. There isn't a good enough looking one to bother with. If you have any more specific questions, feel free to PM me. EDIT- Couple things. A) By AO Tech, I assume you mean EOTech? as in the 511, or 512 siries? B) IIRC EOTechs weren't issued so much as purchsed by PPLCI members? Any clarification on this?

1) Yeah, sorry i messed up a little there. 2) Again true, i missed that fact, but just searched it and found out that forces in-country have to buy there own new sights and Red-Dot's and Holograph seem to the the regular for anyone dealing with closer targets than 300m |

I'm also looking to build a C7A2 or C8A2 replica, depending on which base gun I end up getting. I'm currently looking at a couple of used TM M4, but thinking I might prefer a full-length M16 model instead for the C7 (in that case, a new, but more expensive CA M15A4 rifle from 007). And the full metal body of the CA is more attractive than the ABS TM, even though the TM is a fine gun in its own right.
I'm not anal about making it a 100% faithful reproduction of the real steel, but I do want the green furniture (including the collapsable stock) that I will paint myself with Krylon OD, and I already have a reproduction ELCAN sight on the way. I'm not worried about small specifics like the TRI-AD mount, since I don't see myself needing accessories. However, the one thing that I would love is to get the ribbed magazines to complete the look of the gun. Which would be the best brand to get, preferable in low cap if available? I would prefer not get hi-cap, because I hate winding (have that on my AK and ordered some low caps instead). |

You'll probably be best off going with the G&P 130 Rnd mags.
I've got a similar project starting soon, picking up an M15A4 Carbine in a trade for my HK33K and turning it into the British L119A1. The project will be purely cosmetic with things like a heavy barrel and stock pad. Perhaps later on I'll cut a AG36 into the foregrip...ah plans

I'm sure this is a no-brainer, but I assume a PTW would be the best base to start off with if one were considering a C7/8, correct? Say a PTW M16 of some sort to a C7A2. Easy as pie, right? And a lot better than using a TM base, obviously.
Are there mods out there to allow for the ambidextrous mag-release and Selector switch? If cash wasn't a factor, how accurate could you get to the real thing? Last edited by Mr. G36!; November 17th, 2007 at 23:33.. |
