Dry firing is one of those "it depends" situations. Lots of real steel folks do it as a drill. They may put a snap cap in the chamber as needed.
For airsoft some pistols I wouldn't do a lot dry firing on like a KSC/KWA USP. In any case when I do a dry fire drill It's with no gas or BBs, I'm working the trigger, not worrying about the action. Your laser can be helpfull in these drills also. It will show if you're yanking on the trigger during any stage.
