Hey don't joke, I was thinking it might work well on an AKSU: most vertical grips get in the way and the Krebs canted adapter feels... unusual.

I don't think it'll work. The AK's sights are too low profile, and unless you have an optic, your thumb will just get in the way.

Good point, although the Samson RAS is a lot "chunkier" than an M4's... I'm thinking my thumb could easily rest on the top edge of the side rail.

Purists, cover your eyes...

too late

Anyone else in the test group? I've signed up, but don't know if USML is going to stop this from coming up.... (I just signed up, and don't know if I'll qualify, hoping someone else has the confirmation already and can alay my fears of DoS stopping this).

That was the set up I was going for..... But the rail FUBAR.

I still think that you'd be better off running a TD stubby.. Especially for an AK, or CZ/VZ setup.

A little while ago I took all the stuff off my rifles to change up the forends...and got lazy and didn't put the "stuff" back on. Shot the next couple of CQB, CAPS and a Milsim with just iron sights and no vert grip (I like the little stubby one and do the thumb break grip when I use it)...it was refreshingly simple and "natural".

Shock/horror...the other night I left a PTW upper "stock"...with the "old-fashioned" carry handle sight and front A sight...and played around like that. It was sooooo nice.

What are all these fancy attachments and stuff for?....oh right, I forgot...$$$$$ to pimp your ride.

Iron sites all the way.

For a fore grip I use this:
Works at every angle and shooting style

But it's not as much Ă* la mode like the magpul grip. It's not even coyote brown!

pfff!

That being said, I'd be interested in having the Magpul grip. I just need a compatible rifle now. Maybe this summer.

For the guys talking about AK's DrDrake did say in his first post on AR15 that he tried it on his and liked it. He doesn't state what kind of setup or AK he was running though.

If you were using the EB SS rail, it's missing screws to mount properly (like a real Samson K-Rail) on the CYMA. Apparently manages to hold on the Kalash models.

I use a LaRue style stubby on my AK-105 (edit: see pic below, since we're doing pics). I gamed it a full day and it was pretty comfortable. But for some reason I find it weird on the AKSU.

His setup is probably similar to Travis Haley's, itself similar to the so-called "Vickers AK" (an AK-102 owned by a fellow called "Jay C" who attended one of Larry Vickers' classes, or so the story goes). Usually shortened (AK-100 series) AKs with a setup that revolves around the Ultimak gas tube rail and lower RAS.

This was Travis Haley's setup:

And the original JayC gun along with my attempt to reproduce it (with a few personal preference changes):

I disagree with a lot of the Magpul hate. I think they do alot of good products and own a lot of their kit. That being said, this isn't one of them.

A problem can be solved just as easily with a thumb break grip, or a hand stop. I think the AFG is just too big and wonky.

apparently though this will cost in the $30-40 USD range, which is cheaper than KAC's handstop(60s) or a stubby tangodown or Larue's FUG(80+)....the pricing might just swing some to switch...
