Have couple of questions.

1. Just to verify, it is a TNC connector for the antenna, right?

2. Is their any reason you couldn't use a duo band antenna from say a Ham set ir do you think it has to be the Thales antenna.

I just ordered a UHF version of the US PRC-148 and this thread is more than worth it's weight in gold.

Also, if y'all are interested I made a template covering the U.S.A. FRS/GMRS. I have also made a few others covering U.S.A. VHF MURS and UHF business band.

I believe Conker was asking for the FRS/GMRS to add to his list.

Thank y'all for the review and sharing the troubleshooting ideas. This should prove useful for me and future people.

See notes in red.

Does someone know how to install the real one?
I opened the radio and it seems that there is no much space inside...

1. Dremel
2. Dremel more
3. Keep dremelling

Or alternatively, get a United Star replacement plug: http://www.px-airsoft.com/showroom/m...66811680015385

No. No. No. Where was this 6 days ago? After months of debating making the purchase on a RS one, I finally did it. It's going to cost me $70 for one by the time I get it. If only I had waited 2 more days...

Hi all,

I too have broken the solders to the stock U283 connector. I am aware that you can buy a replacement from United Star, but that connector is really poor quality (as demonstrated by the fact that it just broke after light use) and I don't want use the same thing if I can.

I want to purchase a real U283/U. I have access to a lathe, and a full shop actually.

I know C2 has done this before without any dremel hack. Can I ask:

- What part of the plug needs to be turned down?
- Do you need to modify the radio casing (either the top black plastic faceplate or the metal inner frame)?

I'd really appreciate any insight. Simplying turning down the plug should be simple enough. I just hope there are not extensive modifications required to the frame.

@panda:
1. Yes, the problem is the impedence. You can buy a PTT with amplification functionnality or replace the microphone.

2. When does it happen? With which antenna? Which frequencies? Did he get the correct version for the frequencies he wants to use it?

Also, if anyone wants to buy one, please check here; http://airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=136213

Conker,

When I click your link, it says I don't have permission to view it. Any ideas why I'm not allowed?

Problem with Mbitr sending

Hi,
Just recently I got problem with 5pin united star mbitr.

Receiving the audio is good and perfect, when I push PTT to send it starts sending ok but when i speak to mic it shatters the audio, sometimes 1/20 audio is ok but usually it is distorted.

I am using the small regular antenna.
I have tried different frequenzes PMR.
I have tried with headset*, and without headset, same effect.
Battery has been charged /rebooted.
It has not been reprogrammed since it worked.

*ptt:s, nexus u94 and tci liberator.
headset comtac 1 with z-tactical microphone bar.

This set worked fine for 5months.

Has anyone encountered problem described ?
