Do you guys find that helmet actually help in the field (for skirmishes) or are they just for looks and to hold all your fancy/expensive nic-nacs? Should I be looking in to a brain bucket or should I scratch it off my 'to buy' list? I'm a budget airsofter, so I'd like to know what's practical, not just tacticool.

If you have an NVG, they are useful.
But I don't have an NVG. I'm just a fancy whore.

I like it for cqb because, as mentioned, it actually does protect your head.

Depends which lid you're questioning. The MICHs are somewhat heavy, the clones I'm talking about. If you throw in the Ops-core straps, they're more comfortable. As for attachments, they're there if you need them. I like to record videos. V-lites to mark I'm out and whatever.
IBH is light, protech is light, great for CQB, but if you're willing to get the bang out of your buck get Ops Core base jump. Not only you have accesories, you get protection. In CQB, you're looking at alot of hazards, close quarter engagements. |

How much lighter are the IBHs then MICH2001s, really? Is it noticeable?

The IBH is an old and out-dated model of helmet.
Unless you are going for a specific load-out of a specific time-period, I would stay away from the IBH. Go with a MICH 2001 or 2002.

As for the weight difference, the replica MICHs will be heavier than IBHs. The IBH replicas are thin plastic, like a Protec with the styrofoam removed, whereas the MICH replicas are made from thicker, heavier plastic.

So there is a noticeable difference between the IBH and the MICHs? I prefer the MICH2001 over all the others. (except maybe the FAST, but there's no way I could afford it.)

Both replica and real, MICH will always be heavier. The cut on 2001 is more nice, and is still used by US SOF.
Depending on the shape of your head, the IBH may not likely to fit. While on a MICH, you can throw in OPS-Core straps, or dial kit. |
