Fair enough.
I've just always hated the high pitched whine emanating from the gearbox. I want a GBBR but my budget will only allow an AGM, which I cannot justify spending $500 on, because it seems to require upgrades almost immediately. |

Dude there are at least 10 AVers in the GTA. If they wont respond to you why not go to them? For example Brian at TTAC3 who is a host and an AV Rep. Or Jeroon who runs ArmyIssue down in Port Credit. He sells pants and is an AV Rep.
Save yourself the blasphemy of clear receivers and just get AV'ed. A whole world of guns will be opened for you. |

Get the AK. I'd get the CYMA AKS74U if I wanted a small one. Get AV'd and they're on for $360 in the classifieds. There's more AK things around than you can shake a stick at...mags, batteries, rigs, etc...
UMP's are as long as a MP5 but much bulkier. Unless you know you can get/find UMP midcaps...forget it. Hicaps suck and I was stuck with a Star UMP that I couldn't get mags for. Plus...the mags are stupid big. Almost twice as thick as an MP5 mag and straight. Pain in the ass unless your rig is setup to carry that type (i.e. P90/UMP) mags. |

If the UMP is really what you want then get it, but just letting you know that it has a lot of knocks against it, despite it being a really awesome and sexy looky good. A gun isn't much good without mags. And mags aren't much good without something to carry them in. Carrying UMP mags on a chest rig is not very practical due to their length. You need them set up on drop leg rigs, which means more gear to buy, and few magazines can be carried.
Like the P90, there's a reason that there's not a lot of them in use. It's not because they're not awesome guns. It's because everything about them is so specialized that it's hard to get what you need to use with the gun. And even them, the long mags are cumbersome. I own a P90. I love everything about that gun. But I wouldn't game it as my main gun for those very reasons I'd recommend against a UMP as your main gaming gun. AK, AR or MP5 would be my recommendation.

Just before I was about to buy the UMG, he informed me about the JG GBBR M4 coming around christmastime - or sooner? - for about $350. (Anyone have any details?) I think I'll save my money for that, and hold off on the UMG - based on what you guys have said, I might get a cheap AK47 for the time being - I can deal with the ugly. I've always wanted a GBBR but never been able to afford one - maybe now's the time? Plus, I know how to care for and upgrade them much better than AEGs. So, anyone want to pass along some info? |

if you're cheap, I would advise against buying a gbbr, as those seem to be money pits to make fieldable, the umg is a horrible idea, the resale value is crap unless you're selling it with extra midcap/locap mags as they are hard to find. AK's and M4's are fine, lots of stuff available for them, but really just get AV'd and have a look for yourself.
