My FPS is too HIGH

Velocity is measured with .2's ALWAYS. Using a heavier bb won't change your muzzle energy. It's like getting hit by a bus at 40 or a Ferrari at 60.

Actually a better analogy would be comparing the stopping distances of a bus at 40 and a civic at 60 or something.

Actually, while this is commonly accepted as being true there haven't really been any empirical tests to verify the veracity of the "spring-losing-strength-over-time" theory.

Some experimentation was being done here, but the thread appears to have died.

Most fields I've been to, noob snipers are allowed, just discouraged for their own sake of enjoying themselves, as long as they have below limit rifles. Too many noobs think that they can pwn guys with a sniper rifle in the brush and in urban settings just like they are able to pwn guys in mulitplayer video games. Total falsity, and it is theirs to discover. One must have years of experience in airsoft to be able to do well with a sniper rifle anywhere, and when they get it, it becaomes a huge addiction! I've played two urban games this year, and mostly used my sniper rifle with a pistol back up and my MP5 slung on my back, and I freaking love it! More so that I didn't even use my MP5 much at all during those games. Experience gives you that level of expertise and addiction, not the gun you use.

My MP5 is leaning up against the van, still with a full mag in it, roughly four hours after game start. At that point I'd gone through about two mags worth of 0.36g BBs in my M24. End of the night, I had maybe half midcap left in my MP5, and had racked up a good dozen kills, only one or two with my MP5.

I put a Modify 90 spring in my MP5A5 last year, it regularly shot around 330fps. Earlier this year I chronied it, it shot 300fps. Last game two weeks ago, it shot 280fps. Modify is an amazingly consistant spring, easily predictable too. Modify doesn't make crap, I trust their parts way more than I do Systema or Prometheus, etc. Nutshell, it all depends on the metal used and the way the spring was tempered, some guns will see a drop, others won't.

Probably, usually takes about 300$ + to make any sniper accurate, or even to outperform an AEG. With a TSD or Well, probably more like 500$

I guess you'll have to learn how to work on your own rifle then. Luckily bolt action spring rifles are the easiest to work on, and the hardest to fuck up something. Change the spring, put it in backwards like I said (only if it's a non-linear spring), etc. Lots of little things you can do to shave off the fps like you want, 10-30fps. Is all a matter of you trying all the suggestions out. There is no lazy way to do it, as has been said here already. If you don't have the patience to learn what makes your rifle work and what doesn't by opening it up and trying things, do you have the patience to use that rifle at an airsoft game as a sniper? You just want to drop the velocity so you can play with your gun, is much easier to do than to try to make it a long range tack driver.

Thanks everybody for the contributions, i will try opening it up (maybe at a place where there is somebody there to help me) and doing some of the things you suggested here, I'm not looking for an easy way out or a cheap way out, I'm just trying not to mess up my gun.

p.s. also i am going to start by trying out the designated marksman, as opposed to sniper, position because there is less expert one shot stuff and more well targeted suppresive fire stuff.
