This is epic! Imagine the chaos that would ensue if a player turned the sentrey and it now fired on friendlies!
The cost is pretty decent but for me I would want like an aep for each one to keep the range low.

There would have to be a way for an enemy to shut it down without damaging it. I know personally if there wasn't, someone would be out of a sentry..Also a way to distinguish a friendly from an enemy..Once those two quirks were worked out I know I'd want one

They're pretty inexpensive. Should set one of these up with an M60.

Who knows maybe the bots will win a game and we'd all be fubar'd to have to go and shut them down. Unless they understand 'game over'.

Yeah I'm thinking the M60 route would be good. It'll slow the motor down to a reasonable speed. It is seriously way too fast. Like the V12 of the telescope motor world.

It would be possible to have some kind of IFF device... but that would probably require a LOT more hardware to allow the turret to shoot badguys while having friendly in the area of effect.

A simple transponder could work to disable the turret when a friendly is in the zone, but actually recognizing what target is friendly and what other has to be shot is more complicated.

It would involve some way to report position of friendly, and map these relative to the image the camera gets. Then track the targets and fire at the "unknown" ones...

Easiest I can is is using a digital compass on the turret, and a GPS on both the turret and players... The turret would be able to have a heading and draw a line between the players and the sentry location, avoiding that line of fire.

Or the IFF device on the player could act as a 2 ways transponder. The turret sends a laser-carried signal while aiming at the target. If the player does not reply with the correct IFF code, it opens fire. That would involve having an array of sensor so that the IFF device always gets the signal from the turret.

Lastly, deploy some sensors in the area around the turret... and use a simple transponder on the player. The turret would have to triangulate the position of the player using the response time. Basically a micro-scale GPS system.

Doomsday anyone? I can just picture a Ring of dead wildlife around the turret after a game.

On another note Orchardists and Farmers would love these things for pest control.
