Of course Steve wants you to buy a pistol
If you're into the M4 style, take a look at the JG416 as a starter gun. Relatively cheap, but still durable enough to get you through a couple seasons with minimal maintence. Upgradable as well and since the price tag is lower than that TM M14, if you decide you're just not that into Airsoft you haven't chucked a chunk of cash down the crapper, and you can probably turn around and sell it. Plus the money you've saved by not buying that side arm or top of the line weapon means you have some money you can put into your 416 for whatever. (red dot, foregrip, extra mags etc.) or gear; boots (good boots a must) goggle, gloves, vest etc.

Of course I do I did mention those new clear lower KJW's they are a godsend. But don't go dualies
I thought it was fun and they are but really inaccurate as BBs just fly everywhere Oh yeah and I may getting a bit too ahead but for any AEG gearbox dissasembl you run into the future, I really like the tutorial videos here www.mechbox.com Albeit those gearboxes are not as easy to fix as paintball guns but a lot of patience is definitely needed |

Okay maybe "training scars" is bullshit :P
And no - a TM gun will not need maintenance. When I got into airsoft I didn't really know anyone else in the city. If my gun broke I was dead in the water. Once at a game my motor height had to be adjusted. What turned out to be a piece of grass in the selector eventually put her out of commision last summer. This after three years. Buy a large battery high quality gun and you're laughing. But really, there is no "one way" to go about doing things. So...just say "eff it I'll do it live". Read some reviews, order a gun, see how it works out. Some people have TM die on them. Some people own PTWs which die on them in the rain.

Oh one more thing, if starting out with an AEG
Knowing what type of Batteries you are using are crucial NiCD batteries are usually what comes with some older model AEG packages thats if they come with it but they tend to be the norm for some China branded guns such as Jing Gong But recentely newer AEG models have NiMH batteries with them which is a big plus as they are stronger that NiCD and definitely increase your rate of fire compared to a NiCD NiCD (Weakest) NiMh (Better than NiCD and good battery to start with) Lipo (Strong battery that increase ROF to high speeds and superb trigger response) NiMH batteries are some good batteries to start with and as for a charger you can use the wall charger that comes with it BUT you should replace it when you have built more funds as better chargers are good on the battery life and some chargers have auto stop features to stop over charge Now Lipo or Lipoly batteries are what makes the gearbox shoot fast and increases your Rate of fire. But it is ill advise if you do not have upgraded gears as normal gears that came with the gun will shred eventually Last edited by cbcsteve; April 20th, 2009 at 04:42.. |

Heh, apparently I've started a debate.
I'll be pooling my resources together for the AEG first, obviously. Right now it's tempting to get the CA M15A4 RIS, if I can find it on this website. I need to get age verified first, I suppose. Such are the woes of living in a town like Nanaimo, though. I'll definitely keep the JG HK416 in mind, though, but after reading the review posted on this site I should be able to get either model at equivalent cost. Once I have the peripherals for that (thus satisfying my overwhelming desire to have a RDS), I can buy other equipment. I guess I'll see how terrifying prices are when I finally take a gander in the classifieds. Might pitch in $40 to get a cheap spring action pistol, though, just to bide the time between now and when I receive the AEG. Also, can someone introduce me to jargon here: what is clearsoft? I'm assuming it has to do with the clear bodies of some of the rifles. Which leads to another question: are all rifles imported into Canada made of the clear plastic, or is it possible to get ones that are actually a solid black? |

Clearsoft, yeah, clear and tinted lower receivers (lower? Upper? It's late...) clear and tinted plastic bodies. It is possible to get black bodied weapons, but not from out of country anymore... well... legally.

Super cheapo springer pistols for the time being. If I like the AEG enough, then I'll buy a genuine gas powered pistol. I think I can survive the $40 hit.
God forbid I buy anything from Walmart, though. Regardless, I suppose I still have to go and get verified sometime this week if possible and take a look at the classifieds. Oh, and, once more, thanks to all. Edit: So, after browsing about reviews for a while I stumbled across the retailers section of the forums. Wandered into 007 Airsoft, which apparently is a big name for Canadian airsoft... though one notes that all of their TM and CA gear is considered "Not For Civilian." Does this mean these AEGs would only be available through the classifieds, then, or is that just retailer policy? Because I can't find any other retailers who sell TM or CA, though it's late and I'm undoubtedly very disoriented in my stupor. Last edited by Ashton; April 20th, 2009 at 06:36.. |

Ni-Cad batteries are an older chemestry, but still very relevant. They perform better in cold weather, and you can get them in higher miliamp rating over NiMah packs. Notice how almost all large batteries are Ni-Cads? Higher Milliamp batteries will also increase your ROF because they can discharge more raw current. I challenge you to put a 8.4v 1500MiA Ni-Mah and a 8.4v 4200MiA Ni-Cad in the same gun then tell me the Ni-Mah pack gives you a better rate of fire. Won't happen. Voltage also has a significant effect over Rate of Fire.. moreso than the Miliamp rating. Ni-Cad packs are also more robust than Ni-Mah. They're not as tempermental, and contrary to popular opinion, the memory effect has been largely eliminated from Ni-Cad packs. It's still there, but you don't need to discharge the pack on a 1:3 bases or something stupid like that that some people claim. A discharge once every few months (maybe a bit more often if you charge the battery a lot) should be sufficient. Quote:

If you want the best bang for the buck when it comes to looks, durability and quality go for any complete King Arms AEG, out of the box they are beautifull (yes, I owned a few) and as for the handgun/side arm debate well i used primarily a KSC G19 glock. what gear you use is your own thing there are no set gear/AEG you have to get most of what was suggested are good choice, it depends how deep your pocket is and how serious you are about details
Have fun |

There was a time, long ago when importation of airsoft guns was flourishing but then... something terrible happened...... THREE YEARS AGO..... THE AUTHORITIES..... RAIDED IMPORTERS..... They slapped criminal charges against them.... "Oh no.... Airsoft in Canada is.... is...." COMING THIS SUMMER..... Really, there were raids a while back and people got burned. People like Ken and Will were in a lot of trouble, over some toy guns (that's not the whole story but I don't want to about the whole thing). Ken used to sell those guns but got burned for it. I think he keeps them there just for reference or as an archive of Airsoft history of "the golden years". This is just speculation but he may be able to import them for LE and such to train with (he would probably need some sort of temporary pardon from the Chief Firearms Officer or someone like that to be able to supply people like that with the black guns). Anyone who sells black guns sells in the classifieds. Also the pistolero says to get a pistol. hmmmm.... I wonder why..... Although they're actually pretty awesome, unless you're going to be playing a lot of CQB then it's not really worth it. (PS: If you're heading to Vancouver hit up "the ferry" for a game). EDIT: Your local clubs should be CIA (Central Island Airsoft) and SIR (South Island Rangers).
