Any China replica over 100 lumens! Yea right... I don't know how they test them but they are not even close to reality.
I say buy a real one around 100-120 REAL LUMENS and that's plenty. I have a Pentagon 100 lumens real steel weaponlight whit a pressure pad. Very happy whit it. Pressure pad is very good quality and very strong materials also. Also, Xenon and led beams act different. Buy the one that fit for your combat style. P.S. KDN 250 friggin lumens?!?!?! That size? No way.

Dunno about that with the eye damage thing but I know what you're talking about. Like how 500 lumen flood lights are really dim compared to 120 lumen hand lights because of the area of effect.
Don't know how that effects it, all I know is that eye damage can occur somewhere around 250 lumens. This is also assuming the persons eye was fully open (dilated?) when it hit. Kinda like what happens when you shine a flashlight in a dark room in a CQB game. |

For a tactical light, you want a center focused light with a wide diffused ring of light around, with no blind spot. All surefire give you that.
From my experience, knockoff chineese light are way over rated. Their light is not ballanced (not white, more yellow or too blue (LED). Their reflector is not always good. You get what you pay for. The Surefire G2 is really good and sub 100$. I curently have 2 surefire, an E2D and a 6P LED Defender. The E2D has seen a lot of action and it's still kicking hard. I had to change the bulb after 5 years of use. The body of the light has some wear, but still solid as a rock. Life time warranty... that speak for itself.

Also, this company would appear to produce good (cheaper) alternative to Surefire
http://www.inova-mil.com/products_white.html From the surefire buyer here, lumen can be measured from the bulb itself or one the whole flashlighth is rigged (with the lence and mirror). Cheap light will se decrease in lumen while good quality light will maintain high lumen output (better mirror quality). Now, how are chinese lumen measured, from the bulb or from the fully build light?

For those who have played with me at Defcon they will know how bright the Ultrafire chinese knockoff is. Enough to distract and blind (not literally) up close.
Says 230 Lumens but probably 200 best. I use CR123 http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.17401 Best damn flashlight and has a strobe effect. I am bit scared to use the strobe effect incase it may cause seizures, its like watching Pokemon from a tube |

Inova make good product too.
Surefires are expensive, because they are the fashionable taclights and are used by a lot of military and police officers. They are good, but overpriced. Being popular make them good for the fact that they have good accessories and service. I think the lumen output is influenced by the reflecor and lense (Surefire have a very hard lense at the front that is shock and impact proof (To a certain point to impact). Light is additive, that mean that the more photon you stack, the more power you get. That's why I think that the reflector has something to do with the lumen output.

What model? I have the T1 Tactical and am told the new pressure switch will fit fine (that's from Fenix), as they are still using the same barrel stock for the new line, and the same thread ratio.

Depends on the frequency, but if it's 4Hz or less it's safe yet still effective. Typically it's 6Hz to 10Hz or so that enters the area most will have a seizure at. I looked it up on the province's offical site to get teh info because I want to make a small circuit to mount in the foregrip of my MP5 to allow me a strobe option.

The strobe option is usefull for masking your movement. Surefire did a nice little DVD demo of some of the techniques for strobing lights in a tactical environement. It look weird, but the logic is sound.
