Hudson are junk and so are Jac from what I've read. Smokey's Garand runs you about $1500 USD...

One of the great things about WWII weapons is most of the ones that saw wide spread usage were ones that were designed to be made easily, with a minimum of tooling. Anyone with a small shop and a bit of knowledge should be able to make a decent copy of one if they can get the proper measured drawings and stuff. Mags would likely be a pain however.
That said, if anyone comes across detailed scale drawings of exteriors for the different models of .30 cal, Bren, FG42, or Sten, let me know. (I'm not liking reverse engineering a .30 cal from photos and incomplete drawings.) |

Somebody posted a thread saying that there were autocad drawings available for a .30 cal for 20$. Some guy was making them and now only makes .50 cals, and made his .30 cal drawings available for a small fee. I lost the URL though, or I would've bought some already for my GF who's an autocad specialist in steel structures.

I think the most reasonable choice would be the TM Thompson. It would work for a US solider, a Brit one, and if you get bored with WWII it turns into a pulse rifle.
There are threads on Arnies Airsoft with some hand built weapons of that vintage. I don't know about how "easy" they are to replicate though Weapons like the Bren, the Thompson, & both Browning machine guns were first made in a time when gunsmith was an artist vs. an assembly line worker. The M3 grease gun and the Sten were a bit sloppier but still getting one to the point where you'd be happy to be seen with it could be a long road. And then of course there's the inevitable risk that when you build a firearm someone may drop by and arrest you. |

Personally, I'd love a Garand as well... the Kar98 is a pretty piece also. And the Tommy... well... c'mon, it's an icon!

I know some British folk (can't remember the webpage right now) were off making sten's and bren's and enfield's. Someone else here can elaborate on that, but this is US weapons so I digress.
M1A1. I find it's the shit, and don't you? |
