Custom. Made from real VN 20 rounders if I'm not mistaken.

That is correct. I used real mags for the shells. The inner mags were cut down and glued back together. The tough part is getting the holes for the retaining pins lined up.

Yes the mags did take some time. I have done 14 of them in total. Some worked out better than others but they all work well now.
It's quite involved getting the channels to line up properly then there's some cutting and sanding to get the transition smooth.

The battery I'm using is this one:

I have Systema's new high efficiency 490B motor so it has plenty of power and capacity for my use.

Man that is just so well done.. That I would say would be the ONLY PTW I would own.. I really like how you can just convert it from the XM to the M16 VN by just swapping some furniture. The mags as well, awsome touch to finish up the project.

good job on those mags then, its really nice to see the hard work and patience that went into making it look like a gun instead of adding everything but the kitchen sink, even though there is nothing wrong with that either

so what did you need to do to install that battery, and what charger are you using? also, are you using any sort of low voltage cutoff and what kind of ROF do you get with whatever spring you are using.
i got a project i want to start thats going to use the same betteries, but im not sure if 11.1v is too much for what i'll be running.

Thanks so much for the kind words. It's nice to see others appreciate the older styles. As said, there's nothing wrong with adding scopes and lights and lasers and grips but for me it's the simple clean lines that appeal.
The mags were the touch that really sets the mood of the era I think. Alot of work and refinements and to get the best lines of cut and angles of the cuts but I think it was worth it. At one point I thought I would do 20 of them seeing as I can only get about 35-40 rounds per mag but I have tired of the process after 14 and a couple that needed extra work due to misfeeding problems. I guess 14 and a couple regular mags as backup will be plenty.

As far as the battery goes. To install, it just fits in the stock tube. As the earlier picture shows, the PTW has electronics in the stock tube so I can't close the stock completely while in use.
With the efficient motor, the ROF with the 11.1V is about the same as the regular 480 motor with a 9.6V. The 11.1V on the 480 motor is a very fast ROF.
Again with this motor, I don't use a low voltage cut-off pr warning as I was careful to guage the reading of the battery after a game and approximate mag usage. In a regular day, with my style of play, I may go through 600 rounds. Not many. That is and average with some days more (depending on the games) and other days even less. With the 480 motor on a busy day, I would get the capacity down to about the 30% level but still above the 11.1 rated voltage so no problems there. With the 490B motor in after and average day, the battery still reads 65% capacity. Plenty of juice for even 2 days of play. Granted these are based on PTW motors so I don't know how that would compare in a non PTW.

Excellently Lipo dedicated charger. Really good service too. You need to buy the appropriate adapter as well.
