Just take pics of everything and send them to the email I posted above.

I sent a zipped file set with a bunch of pics that got bounced back to me. I chose 3 instead and emailed it to your address. Let me know if it came thru. THanks, Jerold |

Yup got it fine. The website you mentioned earlier is great for the radio end of the wiring, but the pics of the mic are not showing me quite what I'm after. Any chance you can crack it open and make a little map of where each colour wire goes?

do you mean the mic handset for the MX300?

Yup. The schematic diagrams give me what I need for the radio side. I just need some sort of diagram for the mic side that you're plugging into the radio.
Now are you just using the mic, or are you cannibalizing the mic to make up a headset?

I have 2 of the MX 300r mics. I'm going to sacrifice one to make up the headset. The locking screw piece on the bottom of the handset that locks the handset to the 4-pin cable is busted, so they won't stay together. The other on works fine and I'll keep it. If I can't shimmy the case apart, i'll crack it to get you some photos of the inside.

Ibby:
I figured out how to disassemble the handset. I'll describe the setup here and send you the photos via email. It is a 4-pin connector between the cable and the handset. Pin 1: RED & BLUE Wire connects to the speaker (Both wires are connected to this one pin). Pin 2: BLACK Wire branches out into 2 BLACK Wires. One end of the black wire goes to the mic and the other black end goes to the mic talk button on the side of the handset. Pin 3: GREEN Wire connects to the talk button on the side of the handset - along with the Black Wire Pin 4: WHITE Wire connects (soldered) to some metal contraption (?ground?) that is screwed into the plastic handset and then another White Wire goes from the metal (?ground?) thingy out to the mic - with the Black Wire. (I hope my description wasn;t too technical for you ;>). I don't know if it makes any difference, but on the 4-pin male connectors, there are 3 pins that are alike and one has a plastic tip on it and a hole in the center of the mael pin. That one is the green wire. The female end of it on the cable has a connection that looks like a TV coaxial cable (a needle pin in the center that slips inside the male pin for the green wire. Don't chop up anything just yet...take a look at this connector on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Motorola-MX-KVL-...QQcmdZViewItem It's a Hirose adapter for the MX300 series, model number: PLN-6980A. The DEVGRU should plug directly into that. I think it's worth a shot, especially for the price, before you go to the trouble of ripping apart a speaker mic and wiring it up; I would imagine that if your DEVGRU works with a Saber or any other Motorola for which a Hirose adapter is available (Genesis series HT600, Jedi series HT1000, XTS3000, etc), then it should definitely work with your MX300R. Would you mind sharing with me where you got your UHF MX300R, and which frequencies it came programmed to? You mentioned that you had more than one I believe in the original post; would you care to sell one to me? =) All the ones currently on eBay have been demilitarized (channel elements/PROM ripped). I'm having trouble finding a working one. Here's a pic of my current setup, complete with hirose adapter: Props for your excellent choice of radios! Thanks. |

VinnyGT19:
Thanks for the link. I'm going to pick up a few and try them out. Yes, I do have several MX300R's. 2 are UHF and one is VHF. I bought these off ebay about 8-10 years ago and I don't know if these were military or police surplus. I don't know what the freqs. are except that they only work on channel 4 - (the UHF ones). Back then, you can find hundred of MX300's on ebay. I got lucky with what I found for this thread. I think that I picked up the VHF radio just to get the mic(s). The VHF radio is in pretty bad cosmetic condition. The rubber is pretty much disintegrating, but if I connect a battery and charge it up, it lights up, so I think it's ok. I only have 2 batteries. I just can't 'talk' to anyone since I only have one VHF and I don't even know the freq. Sorry, but I am keeping both UHF's since It's the only way I can 'talk' on it. |

Hey there, Ibby.
Don't mean to sound like a nag... Did those last set of photos help out? THanks, JErold |

The pics helped sort of. I haven't done a diagram up yet. I've been busy with a couple of M4's here that I need to get out of the house. Don't worry, it's still in my "to do" pile.

Did you ever get this resolved? If not I can continue on with it. My "to do" pile is a little smaller now

Ibby:
Thanks for checking in! No, I haven't progressed with it. I don't really have much of a clue in determining the correct connections for all the wiring. The only thing that I did do was get an adapter from ebay. It was the one that "VinnyGT19" wrote about in this post. It is a Hirose adapter and does fit on the MX300. I took it apart and it has wires soldered to specific contacts. I am guessing that once the wiring translation between the DEVGRU and the Motorola is done and comparing it to the wiring setup on the MX mike contacts, that it would be a soldering job to re-position the wires to the correct contacts. I don't know if I sent you any photos of that adapter. Let me know and I'll email you a batch. I really aprreciate your help and your time with this. Jerold |
