You say you wanna play milsim... so I'd say start by figuring out which force and era you want to do an impression of. E.g., you can do US Marines in OD (Vietnam), Woodland (Panama), 6-Color (Gulf War), 3 Color (Afghanistan, Early Iraq), Des MARPAT (current)... but do you plan on buying armor? Old PASGT flak vest (GW), Woodland/CB IBA? M16A1? A2? Something more current with RIS?

And that just one (not exhaustive) list of possibilities.

Figure out what you wanna do. Right now you're just asking which pattern is the prettiest.

CADPAT FTW. i find that pixelized patterns blends in and break up your silhouette much better then standard US woodland and most other "splotchy" type patterns

To start out, if you can only afford one general pattern. Get woodland.
It is a very general pattern that works well enough in most all areas. For Milsim purposes Woodland generally has a spot in most mislims that have camo restrictions, so you should mostly be covered there.
That being said, With 3 years left to go, there is no reason why you could not be able to afford a few different patterns. Brit DPM is another very good choice, and often cost effective. Flectarn is pretty cheep as well. You could probably have all 3 sets for under $150 if you know where to look, don't mind a little bit of wear, and are not some weird fit/size.

I have in my closet, Issue – Marpat, ACU, CADPAT, Flectarn, DPM (both arid and temp). I have Multicam, OD’s, Tri color desert, Desert night time (The canceled issue stuff from the Gulf War) And probably some other weird crap that I have hidden in a box in my basement because I have never used it.

Out of all of this, I like Marpat, and Multicam the most. But generally I choose my patterns based off game/team restrictions, and most of all season and field that I will be playing on. Of all the uniforms I have, I actually find the issue ACU uniform that a friend gave me when I went to stay with him on Ft Knox (part of a Bradly crew) is the most comfortable set I own. So if games allow it this season, my ACU will see some use.
I rarely use CADPAT anymore. For our fields here in Edmonton it is just too dark/green. Only time I break it out, is when a Milsim calls for it.

So to recap - if you are only able to afford one set of clothing in the next 3 years, and do not have much money, woodland is a safe all around bet. If you can afford it, start to expand the collection to those mentioned in above posts. Have a look around your area, ask people that play at your local fields as to what works great for that area.

Go with what you like man! Remember, you're the one who's going to be wareing it.
I only have one set right now and went for the British Woodland DPM. It's a nice pattern and works quite well in a wooded area (go figure..). My next set will probably be standard CADPAT, but that won't be for a while.

Private contractor style.

OD or tan depending on the operation, with a little Woodland thrown in on the bottom half to mix it up depending on the scenario. So long as you don't contrast too harshly with the environment, you'll be good to go if you learn how to move with stealth in mind.

Im leaning more towards CADPAT, Woodland and Flecktarn becuase there most suited to our enviroment. My fvorite look would be a modern Canadian Infantry Man or a modern Bundswehr look. Im also looking for it to be comfy and widly avaliable. Like here in Ottawa theres an army surplus store hat has alot of stuff, which i have yet to go through it all. Im almost certain all the stuff there is the real thing. It called Rivers and its in the Byward market. so if any player from Ottawa could give me any information on it that would be great!

Ive never heard of DPM before and i do like the multicam a little.

Thank you all so much for the replies!

Well, I would take MARPAT Woodland patterning out of that list of uniforms if restricted to one pick only.

Ultimately whatever unifrom you pick, you have to use the field to hide yourself most effectively, sticking to shade, avoiding sillouetting yourself, staying quiet, basic fieldcraft stuff. The sexiest cam in the world won't save you if standing up in a field with no cover!

More of this in the field.
It looks like a greener version of Flec. The cap he's got on looks Belgian. But I would like to know what exactly the "support troops" are wearing.

I found Cadpat(woodland) and DPM to be the best for the area I play in... (Personal Preference)

I have also owned Marpat and that worked really well with the change in seasons.

My suggestion is to take a look around your area and see which of your favorites will work best in blending you in to your surroundings. Chances are you will have a minimum of three uniforms after your first or second season.
