i find the systema silent gave my gun more of a whomp and got rid of the clack of plastic hitting plastic.

I can attest to that. I just upgraded my M15 rifle with a Systema piston and silent piston & cylinder head set. I also installed a stiffer spring. The gun sounds the same, only the shots sound a bit louder because of the 50 fps upgrade.

Listen to Illusion on this, he is bang on.

I have Systema silent piston kits in all my guns because thats all there was when my guns were built (dating myself). I did notice a reduction and change in the sound from a hard slap to a softer thump, but it wasn't the sound signature I was looking to deal with. At that time everyone and his mother was blowing the front ends of mechboxes and when the info came out about the reduction in stress on the gearbox, it became standard issue in all my rebuilds.

Testimony to this - Illusion - you remember the box you made for Nocturnal's DTP bodied M16A4? I still have that gun, box build by you - its been opened once two years ago by Gump for seasonal service and lubing and at that time there was no indication of wear or wear leading to failure, he put it back together and its been working like a champ ever since. One of the best boxes you ever built. That one has a Systema silent piston kit in it.

Thanks!
All piston heads fit across all versions of gearboxes. Ventilated/ported piston heads will increase ROF and increase shot-to-shot consistency (in velocity.)

You pick a piston head based on the characteristics you want from it:

If you want more sound and greater impact feel, get a metal piston head. Note that they add much more stress to the gearbox.

If you want a softer impact, get a synthetic piston head, ie Silicon, Pom, Polycarbonate, etc

If you want an even softer impact, get the Systema Silent head set (you will need to pick gearbox version-specific kits for this, as the cylinder head is unique.)

If you want the softest and quietest impact, get the Angel Silent head set (you will need to pick gearbox version-specific kits for this, as the cylinder head is unique.)

I do remember that gearbox, because that was one of the nicest sounding gearboxes I ever built. The cylinder head on that was also unique - I installed the KM TN Straight bore cylinder head on there which offers a much quieter sound signature than the Systema one did. I haven't built any other gearboxes with that cylinder head due to the cost of that cylinder head making a build like that cost-prohibitive for many users.
