Billy it isnt going to hurt your gun.
Just wipe it off when you get home, leave it in a dry place and itll be fine.

Your AEG will be fine so long as there are no exposed contacts (ie - wrap any connections in electrical tape). Just make sure when you get home to give everything a thourough cleaning and drying.

A dunk in the water won't stop an AEG from firing. Leaving it wet will rust the magnets in the motor and corrode the springs but you'll probably end up with a fairly functional gun after things dry out. The voltages involved are not very high (9.6v) and will not drive a significant current), but you could probably get some electrolysis at the battery terminals or places where you have exposed charged connections close to each other. The small electrolytic reaction would accelerate oxidation fairly fast, but if you don't immerse things for hours, the damage would not be large. I would guess that most of the oxidation/rust damage would be done after the game if the gun is left wet. Mechboxes are enclosed as are motor grips so they wouldn't dry out for quite some time. It would be difficult to dry out the iron motor plates and magnets which would rust up overnight. i wouldn't be surprised if the motor bushings seized or at least got sticky.
Only way I could see to waterproof an AEG would be to heat seal it into a plastic bag. Make the bag loose around the trigger so you could still pull it and blast through the bag. Once popped, you couldn't dunk again, but it works for beach landing marines. Playing in the rain is not the same as dunking your gun. Rain will mostly drip around the outside of your AEG. As long as you don't flip the rifle upside down, there aren't too many passages which lead into the mechbox or motor. Tilt the gun upwards and you may get some water drip down the barrel which can result in inconsistent shots.

I have the video linked to in the thread Droc posted, the guy comes right up from being submerged and starts shooting immediatly with a TM AUG. I saw the video not so long ago pop on on google video when I was doing a random airsoft search when I was bored.

Same topic Billy but differant area, what about a GBB pistol in the water? Any problems there as it doesn't run on electric power?

I've always wanted to try integrating a scuba aspect to an airsoft game, though there aren't really any places around here that would be practical for that.
