I'll have to agree. There's enough 5.56 weapons out there already. Whether the L works good or not is aside from the point. The H looks better and is more origional.

Like a modern day M14.

Ill be a fan of the SCAR so long as it doesnt come out like a cunk of plastic like the XM8 guns.

Make the scar heavy and shit-house solid and Ill fork out some loot for one.

I've handled a VFC AkSU and I can say with great certainty that it is by far the most solid gun that I've come across. It performs exceptionally well to boot. The rate of fire is high and the accuracy is dead on (due to the fact that there's no barrel wobble whatsoever). I know a guy that knows the owner of VFC (also known as GB-Tech) and he tells me that the owner is super anal about realism in his guns so all of this gives me high hopes for their SCAR line up.

FN is already producing one for civilians in 2007. I'm just waiting for one, and now probably for VFC too.

Love all of it except the stock.
Agreed I'd rather have the .308 version (especially if it can take AK mags as well as the real steel is supposed to.)
Would rather have the CQC version with the shortened barrel but thats just me.

They may make a 7.62x39mm version of the SCAR but it will not be compatable with the 7.62x51mm NATO version. We're talking about 2 different guns here.

Oh, thought I read somewhere that the 7.62x51mm was also supposed to be able to take battlefield aquired Ak-47 mags for behind enemy lines operations. Can't remember exactly where.

This solicitation requested a new combat rifle, specially tailored for the current and proposed future needs of the US Special Forces, which are somewhat different from latest generic US Army requirements, which are being fulfilled by the newest Heckler-Koch XM8 assault rifle. The key difference in basic requirements between XM8 and SCAR is that, while XM8 is a single-caliber weapon system, tailored for 5.56x45mm NATO ammunition, the SCAR should be available in various different calibers. Initial SOF requirements included two basic versions of SCAR system - the SCAR Light (SCAR-L), available in 5.56mm NATO, and the SCAR heavy (SCAR-H), which should be initially available in significantly more powerful 7.62x51 NATO chambering, and should be easily adaptable in the field to other chamberings. These other chamberings initially include the well-spread 7.62x39 M43 ammunition of the Soviet / Russian origins, and probably some others (like the proposed 6.8x43 Remington SPC cartridge, especially developed for US Special Forces). The key idea of SCAR rifle system is that it will provide the Special Forces operators with wide variety of options, from short-barreled 5.56mm SCAR-L CQC variation, tailored for urban close combat, and up to long range 7.62x51 SCAR-H Sniper variant, as well as 7.62x39 SCAR-H, which will accept "battlefield pickup" AK-47/AKM magazines with 7.62 M43 ammunition, available during the operations behind the enemy lines. Both SCAR-L and SCAR-H shall be initially available in three versions, Standard (S), Close Quarters Combat (CQC) and Sniper Variant (SV). All these variants, regardless the caliber and exact configuration, will provide the operator with the same controls layout, same handling and maintenance procedures, and same optional equipment, such as sights, scopes, and other current and future attachments.

As you can see, it says that it can be "adaptable" which means you'll need to change something on the SCAR to convert it to fire the Russian round.

CQC 6 80 27,914
Sniper Variant (SV) 1 10 11,989

Standard (7.62x39mm) 0 68 2,932
Notice that the standard SCAR-H and the 7.62x39mm variant are listed as separate procurement.

But whatever it is, it's still a sexy gun. Going to have to cut back on future purchases of TM M14s to save room for the SCAR.
