I believe it was only a fissure at first. But after a day of assembling, dissassembling, swearing, trying new parts combo, I probably damaged it more :P
Thankfully, there's a nice Modify cylinder head in the Classifieds right now ![]()

I've installed over 50 of these kits and I've never seen this problem... This may have been one of those cylinder heads that snuck past quality control ![]() The ARS parts are top notch otherwise. Last edited by Amos; October 14th, 2010 at 19:37.. |

Oh and I'd like to add, it was used under 5k cycles. So it's not one of these 10 yrs old guns, the gearbox is pretty much new with no wear anywhere, except, on the head :P

Makes me wonder if you had some weird blockages or during install accidentally bent it. Wouldn't take much if you were installing it and put the upper on and off many times. If the inner barrel/ hopup isn't fully forwards when you put an upper on, you could have put some downward pressure on the nozzle, and in turn, the tip of the cylinder head. Once it is bent, cycling it as normal could have put excessive wear on it causing it to break.
Don't get me wrong. I understand you aren't sold on ARS but this is quite an odd failure. It could have been defective from the factory or you could have dropped it or rested something on it unintentionally. |

fair enough, but I wouldn't stop using all ARS product just because of this one situation. personally, unless this is replicated by a few other people/gun docs, I still stand by ARS and will use them in my builds.

Yeah I know, I was getting awesome airseal with them. I guess I was just unlucky, or excessively hard on them as both the cylinder head and the piston head broke on me :P (Piston head was clearly my fault though, as I had forgotten to check the tolerances within my gearbox, and clearly, it had not enough clearance).
I do love Sorbos though, I just hope my next set won't break. Might be time to try their 3G line ^^

I would like to hear more about this tolerance that caused the piston head to break. What possible tolerance of the gear box itself affects the piston head? If the grove on each side of the piston were pinched that would cause a possible lockup but not a broken piston head. Could you ID what these tolerances are so we may learn from your experience?

You had to modify your lower receiver right?
Can I get a pic of it, looking at the airway it looks like you've got some pretty severe friction marks on it... this leads me to believe the hop and barrel aren't lining up properly with your cylinder head (and would explain your FPS issue) |

I basicly filled down the rails on the piston itself, and abit on the shell. No issues afterwards with the Modify piston head  Quote:
I will post pics of the lower receiver, shell and cylinder head tomorrow morning, with a good camera ![]() I'm heading off to bed now :P I want to add, that this is most likely a personnal error, and not the fault of the MASK kit. I'm just good at messing stuff sometimes ![]()

The airway on your cylinder head is showing some pretty crazy friction marks.. Could you get me a cleared picture of the piston head, and a picture of your lower? |

Yup I can see the problem right there,
You didn't remove enough material from your lower. ![]() There's yours, the red is what you need to remove. Here's a 1st gen CA lower for comparison. ![]() ![]() So your cylinder head wasn't faulty, it had some pretty crazy stress on it from the body. |
