To add to that, voltage isn't the only problem with using an analog trigger.
Running higher voltage causes arcing, which causes carbon buildup, and leads to trigger failure. But higher amperage can cause excessive heat buildup in the trigger block, causing the plastic bits to melt, also causing trigger failure.
This is a typical failure caused by 9.6v large batteries, running high wattage through the trigger.
However, most people are surprised to learn it can also be common with 7.4v LiPo batteries. If you have a high draw motor and fairly efficient wiring, you can buildup a lot of heat at those trigger contacts if you favor full auto.
And most surprisingly, due to the ability of a LiPo to supply high amperage, you can overheat your trigger block with a small 1600mah 15C battery

Protection of trigger contacts is the last thing on my mind these days when installing a MOSFET. For me it's all about ensuring a stable and (literally) solid path of least resistance for the current to travel through.

If you were to go on Tiny Shrunken Down Adventures and take a look at the contacts extremely up close, you'd be walking on a nasty pitted landscape of dirty uneven metal with a bunch of particles and carbon and grease and spit and other crap all over it. Then as you'd watch the trolley arrive in ultra slow motion you'd see another similar landscape crashing awkwardly into all of this, shuddering and scraping like a giant finger nail on a rough chalkboard. Worse still, this is happening over and over as the giant you is up there pulling the trigger throughout the day. Doesn't sound like an awesome environment for happy electrons to flow through. A direct line of nothing but wiring and solder and transistor paths is a super highway in comparison.

We chase after perfection in a lot of the other parts of our guns, happily shim for hours or search for ways to get slightly more compression, one of the justifications for a MOSFET has to be to have the cleanest power grid around...
