A hand-built frankentorque.
Off the shelf? I think Ziming and I both agree that it's the Tienly 30k, maybe if they come out with a slower motor, it'd be that. The ASG meshes well with a Siegetek pinion, it's just the motor itself is somewhat noisy. But paired with fast gears and a fully charged battery, it would be much harder to detect. For the time being, I'm giving clients the option of either motor (ASG or Tienly) given their different characteristics and applications.

I did a zci/siegetek 20:1 build recently that was pretty quiet. Not super quiet like my all shs build on my g36, but I've been having issues finding high torque, low amp draw motors with a straight pinion to try the seigetek pinion. ASM guys tell me I can put a siegetek pinion on a D shaft with some pressfit loctite, but I have not had any luck as it just ends up sliding on the shaft of the shs motor I tried it on.

I'm not sure I would trust something like a pinion to a chemical bond.
If you like the can, why don't you just swap the arm with a higher TPA one from some random ferrite motor? Sounds like you already had the pinion off already.

Not every ASM user is very intelligent... There are a lot of good guys there, but its mostly the elitists who think they're better than the rest of the community.
When you put an O pinion on a D shaft, chances are you are only getting 3 points of contact, and not a full round surface. The idea of a chemical bond is also unappealing to me. My quietest setups are those that use SHS motors with SHS 12:1 and 13:1 gears, as well as Siegetek builds with 10:1 using Gen 2 bevel paired with a Tienly 30k with Siegetek pinion mounted. ASG 18k seems to be a decent motor, however the housing is slightly larger than a standard one and the motor seems to cause more whine, regardless of bevel height. I need to spend more time looking into the root cause of that. |

don't have any higher tpa arms in my bin of abandoned motors. At least none that are 22 or better.

Raid your local shop for dead G&G Combat Machine motors. The ones with grey cans and black endbells are actually parts compatible with SHS motors. They are 28 TPA and use O type pinions.

After getting reorganized and collected post-NF5, I was able to finally sit down and do a thorough review of the newly-released TMC minimap pack.
http://hudsongravity.com/2016/06/17/tmc-vs-gmr-minimap/ Hopefully I'll be able to resume work on the HK416 this weekend.

A look at the Midwest M-Lok rail for the HK416/MR556.
Or it should be titled "get rid of that nasty Dytac or Strike Industries rail and check this out" http://hudsongravity.com/2016/06/22/midwest-industries-m-lok-rail-for-mr556hk416/

I managed to get my ASG to sound pretty much identical to my Tienly setup through somewhat counter-intuitive means. When I shimmed both setups visually, Tienly was much quieter. I tried shimming the bevel gear 0.3mm lower than what visually seemed optimal, the noise signature went down to the same level. Drivetrain setups were identical: Siegetek 10:1 sets in VFC mechboxes, PTS MOE grips, Siegetek pinions. |
