Contrary to that - Sidekicks are actually better and harder to get than jeeps if you talk to most 4x4 community types. The most elusive that I am still on the hunt for is the Sidekick Longbase. You can drop a Suzuki Trakker engine into the Sidekick and make it a real workhorse. With the tight wheelbases of the Sidekick - ive not seen too many places it can't go.

I love those trucks...

We must have put upwards of 10K rounds into that Volvo, all the way up to 420-430fps, plenty of shots from point blank range (it was Frank's call to bring that onto the field), and I don't think we ever found even the slightest hint of a dent, scratch or any damage at all. There were others there, maybe someone can correct me, but I remember going bumper to bumper on that to see if we'd done anything, and turned up zilch.

A heavier round at sniper velocity (500) might do it, mind you, we could have been just at the threshold.

Although technically cars need to be able to take pebble strikes at highway speeds, and even tiny pebbles have alot more mass than bb's, so I guess it wasn't a surprise. Still, it took a crazy man to risk his ride on the field, and he was lucky...

already got my yj stripped down - took doors off, rear seat off (you can still sit on wheel wells facing inside); windshield doesnt have to be removed, its on a hinge, just fold it on the hood.

im still looking at getting a mount for a m60 - something like a "U" bracket screwed on the roll bar in the back; with another bracket on the door hinge on the left (another m60 or 203?) + another guy riding shotgun it should pack a punch over the frontal arc...

im more worried about disable/destroy rules, and yeah, gotta make sure you dont drive over a sniper wearing a ghillie suit.

Slim used his car at a couple of his game. We shot the hell out of it and it was awsome. The car is a beater, at the end all the body was marked with little depression made by BBs hits. The car was full of BBs too.

I would not use a car that you intend on keeping looking good or driving a lot everyday unless you don't care about flying BBs when you go over a bump on the road.

As for running over a Sniper in ghillie... screw that, if you don't go over 30km/h (wich is fast for off road condition) everyone will have time to steer clear of the vehicule.

Oh man, I forgot about that!

Yeah, knowing my luck when your around, the jeep will roll by hitting a pebble.

Seriously though, looks like I'm going ahead and rigging my TJ up for games.

Looking to have her completely rigged out by the beginning of august.

I'm building my monster of an XJ into a viable airsoft vehicle. I was originally going to paint the entire thing Cadpat, but with the amount of actual 4 wheeling I do I'm just going to be keeping it olive green. The Krylon Camoflage olive paint works very well for this, and it's $6 a can at Canadian Tire. Makes for easy scratch repair too. As for paint stripping, the best way is either wire wheeling or sandblasting. You'll have to put a coat of primer on afterwards before the olive drab. The pintle mount looks like this: http://www.milsysgroup.com/MSG_H24_Weapons_Mount.htm but of course these don't grow on trees, and are usually expensive at surplus stores if they can be found at all. This page has good pictures of a proper pintle mount that you should be able to use to fab one on your own. I'll be adding one of these pintle mounts to the external roll cage on my XJ. The nice thing about this mount is that it holds the narrow 5.56/9mm ammo box, so I'll be modding one up at the same time to feed ammo into the 249. The mount on the site will accomodate either the 249 or M60.
One thing to note are the little symbols on the windows/windshield of your car. In one corner you'll find some info on the forming of the glass. It's usually smaller than the size of a quarter and printed in a brownish or white embossing. In there somewhere will be a little circle or square marked 'Saf T Glass' or similar. Cover this up with something that will absorb impact. A piece of tissue covered with tape will work fine. If you tap this little circular area, it will cause the window to shatter, which will leave broken glass everywhere, and the vehicle owner with a hefty repair bill. BB's can find this little area in their sleep...
For those of you with Jeeps who fold the front windshield down, be aware of 2 things: First, the stock Jeep hinges love to freeze in the down position. I've seen more than one Jeep owner bend his windshield bracket or even break the glass trying to hamfist his windshield back up. Give 'em a squirt of lubricant before you fold them down. Secondly, have a stick or something mounted to the bumper sticking straight upward, to protect you in case you run across a wire or large tree branches. Trust me, they always aim for the throat and can be very uncomfortable, even at 10km/h...
