That would be a good plan.
I can build or modify just about any part on bolt actions. Ive spent a ton of work making a snow wolf M24 into a top tier sniper rifle, and I dont think the msr is worth the effort. Most difficult part being having to build a trigger box from scratch. But the design overall is quite poor. Same as with an aeg, you judge a bolt action not by its stock quality, but by the quality of its aftermarket parts. The ares rifles generally have terrible internals and very little low quality aftermarket support via evike house brand garbage. The only one with any decent aftermarket support is the AW338, but only because its allegedly vsr compatible. |

Do you know where I could get a good deal on a vsr? Near montreal I didn't see anything... And I don't know well the other stores in canada...

How much sand CAN you fit in your vagina!?

There's a few places that have decent VSR prices and a few in the classifieds on here. Get age verified and you'll gain access to tons of retailers, classified ads and info.

But like everyone else has already said, get a VSR, you life will be much easier. I only got the MSR because it's just plain sexy as hell but unless you are REALLY hell bent on the asthetics, don't bother, it's more effort than it's worth |

Yeah, at first i got it because it was sexier than a vsr (reminded me of my dad hunting rifle) and I wanted to get out of the lot... I learned the hard way that it's complete shit on the inside...

Should I get a JG Bar-10 or the VSR?

Tokyo Marui VSR-10. It is the gun that every single company has copied and every aftermarket company has used as a base-line to make their upgrade parts off of.

Downside with the marui is you end up replacing all the internals. So all you pay for is an expensive body and receiver.
But having an accurate receiver and cylinder guide rings and everything fitting together properly is worth it. |

VSR parts are everywhere if you have a compatible clone. My L96 (yeah, I know, not a VSR10) was chosen because although it's branded C-Tac, it's actually a Well, and there's a mountain of aftermarket parts for it.
The C-Tac VSR-10 is also a clone and has a pile of very interchangeable parts. When it's on sale it's a heck of a deal, and there's no shortage of them in pawn shops, classifieds, or the junk. What's important in a bolt gun is the frame...everything else pretty much gets swapped out anyways to really make it light up. It's an option... |

If you're insane you can just build one from the ground up from PDI... I'll be strolling by their shop in 2 weeks.... I'm extremely tempted... but laws here limit me to 328 FPS... which makes a bolt action fairly useless.

328 fps? WOW!! Yeah, I see where a bolt would be completely redundant, Amos. Even here...to be perfectly honest, I put a pile of work into my L96...it shoots dead straight at 476 fps all day long, but for the difference between that and my G36, is it really worth it? Sure it's fun, but our field limit on AEG's is 420fps, and the G36 ends up just under that so we're still getting loads of range (r hop, etc) and the convenience of full or semi auto.
I keep the bolt gun because it's cool, it still outranges the AEG's, but if it ever gets up close and personal, we're toast...whereas the G36 firing 30's will still punch through the leaves and in many cases, out distance just about any stock bolt gun. No the G36 isn't stock either, not by a mile. hehehe So what's the game play in Japan like? Last edited by Zeroroaster; December 7th, 2016 at 13:10.. |

Japan is more CQB.
Range depends on regional fields. In Winnipeg my VSR only shot 380fps because our typical engagement distance in summer was like 15-120ft. Around Calgary, if your gun doesn't shoot at least 250ft, expect to zigzag a lot to get closer lol The major advantage is it being dead silent. Bolties aren't JUST about range; many times my VSR was more useful in close engagements than an AEG. PDI used to make a fully PDI CA M24 at like $200 off building a new one before shipping. Would have bought one if only they hadn't stopped building them lol The VSR is the easiest by far to upgrade, but honestly it's really built for a Japanese market. At the risk of sounding like an ass, the best way to describe it is it's a lady's rifle. Light & slender. The M24 just feels more like it should be shooting 400ft lol Speaking of the old guns, though. I'd be really curious to know what the hell I was shooting on .28s with it. Joule creep on bolt actions is real, but the air brake cuts it down by a LOT. |

You're right about that, TC...the bolt is undeniably quiet. The G36 is close though, I've got a pad in it and a few other things...not bad for an aeg, certainly not typical. The bolt is definitely quieter. Not much more than a cracking twig, really..if even that.
I'll have to measure up my L96 to see if it's creeping, well, I'm pretty sure it's creeping, but you know what I mean. No air brake either. There still is something super gratifying about sneaking around for the completely unsuspected hit...then quietly sneaking away. Certainly not possible in a high movement game, but in the forest, or even heavy bush where we normally play, it's more like hunting deer than combat. |
