One day we had about 8 brand new bolt action "snipers" turn up to a game. Still warms my heart.

It really played out like some kind of post apocalyptic farmers vs. PMC types. Which if you staged it right would be interesting for both sides.
It wasn't planned though and it was just a slaughter; and I"m always happy to be on the slaughterin' side.

Does it matter? Some "snipers" use AEGs or gas too. If it's only for the extra FPS, ignore it, it's meaningless: good barrel and BB weight will do more for range than FPS (by itself it will only give you maybe 20-30 feet more, max). As others have pointed out, its more of a challenge using BA -- both on and off the field (setting the gun up properly). Its biggest advantage, when done right, is the ability to get consistency shot after shot (but again as others pointed out, newer AEGs and gas systems are making that possible as well). The number one thing to make a sniper is field craft, regardless of the gun. If you're looking for a gun to lean on to confer some advantage, you're looking for LMGs (but they come with their own pitfalls as well).
