Well Huang I caved in and bought a real 553 in FDE(flat dark earth). I then went to L3 and ordered a new battery cover, latch and hood so I can get one set coated in CRYE Multicam hydrographic film and the other to keep it original looking. I will still get the clone aswell though, since alot of what I get go's on my real steal guns. I got the real one because I plan to get the real Magpul MASADA as well as the airsoft version and then multicam both of them. The replica 553 will go on the airsoft version. Cant wait

Err what's the difference between the 553 and the 552 besides looks? I know there are buttons where you can adjust the different brightness levels and they're placed in different areas than the 552.

The reticule AFAIK is exactly the same, isn't it?

A lot of the variations hinge on the battery used, where the buttons are (side if you need to use NVG), and the mount. That's on the real version, I don't know if the clones will use the same variety of batteries and so on.

The selling point for me on the 553 version is the 2 QD levers instead of a thumbwheel to mount.

Yes the 552 and 553 have alot of differences. The 553 was made by request of USSOCOM (USSOCOM standardized, Type Classified SU-231/PEQ
). It uses CR123 bateries to keep in line with nightvision scopes, lasers, torchlights and hollow vertical grips containers. The use of the lithium batteries also make it brighter and last longer as well as makeing it shorter than the 552's. The height has been raised 7mm specificaly to allow the M4/AR15 sights to line up at the bottom of the sight window for co-witnessing. They are submersible to 66 ft and have AMRS QD throw levers. The retical is also speficaly made for AR weapons. The Clone's have most of these features.
