don't Eropean skirmish sites use all kinds of simulated pyro

A Flashbang

is designed to temporarily disorient people... in a mostly non lethal way.

to get the required effect you need.. a flashbang.

Any simulator will require a degree of suspension of disbelief on the part of everyone.

The AI grenade works fine as a DD .. after all wht happens after the thing goes off is what is important

Most tac lights I've seen have a strobe function. Just pop your light around the corned and flash a strobe... it would certainly work if it's dark, but that would also depend how powerful the light is.

I thought of a flashbang simulator as well. I could only think of a way to simulate flash, no bang. It would basically be a series of strobe lights in a clear plastic sphere. It would only have one setting though: on. Turn it on, hear the capacitors charge, toss it and it would pulse 3 or 4 times at high intensity. The thing would probably be about the size of a softball, probably a little smaller.

I have no idea on cost, as this was just an idea. I didn't see it being particularly useful, except in CQB, which I don't play as often as I used to. Besides, it would probably not be allowed because of a risk to epileptics or something.

I can see this working well in night games.

A camera flash would right mess up your night vision.

Agreed. I also doubt that 8 camera flashes simultaneously would cause any real discomfort, certainly not enough to have the flashee remove his goggles instinctively.

i was thinking of using a 5w Luxeon LED (somewhere above 200lum)
Or there are other insanely high lumen led's by other manufacturers...
I rent out some space in our office building to an LED maker guy, he makes some seriously intense lighting contraptions.
He can machine the canisters for me and even help on the design.
The part that was getting me was how would you tell it to "go off"?

a timer?
impact sensitive?
whats the best route?

so what is the top lumens we would be allowed to use?
im gonna make one.

whole reasoning behind this:
when i used to make LED lightsabers, i noticed with out the blade attached when i shined the 5w in my eye, i went blind for a few minutes...very fun...although its not recommended to look directly into a high power LED...

Impact triger is the way to go.. you want this thing to go off as soon as it hits anything.. The Bang is nice... but could it not also have an electronic sound like a smoke alarm .. or like those personal alarm things..

more of a flash shriek than a flash bang... but still disruptive.. electronic.. in a clear lexan casing.. grenade shaped.. with a pull pin to arm it ( or even a recessed button ) Multiple LEDs .. and battery powered...

Something like this?

They use very simple inertia based switches. Basically a spring and a mass boing around in an assembly. If electrical contact is made with an outer can, things turn on:

Why not just use bear bangers? I forget the company that made the ones I used to use in the woods, but they were essentially a lower powered flashbang. Nowhere nearly as bad as a Tflash, but more than enough to give you a startle. They flashed a bit and everything. They're nice and small, and unlike those comical homemade grenades I've seen you don't need to tape a Bic lighter to your chest rig
Just take note of liability issues. If someone gets hurt, the user and the field owner/operator could be held liable for any damage to person or property.
I don't like using the real things even at work. I once got a front row seat to watch a professional doorkicker lose his entire hand to one. Picking up the pieces was pretty gross.

Holy crap, and they are only $40 for 3.

How did it blow his hand off? Did he hold it too long or was it a malfunction?

Yeah, that's essentially what I had in my head, except that it had 6 flash bulbs (up, down, left, right, front, back) so that no matter how it lands, it's always as effective. My idea would probably be a little bigger than those things though.
