POF P-12X Predator Extended Rail Question

Hey guys,

Me again. I have a question about the handguard in question, but I guess its about handguards in general. My main question is, will it fit an airsoft receiver? Its a RS hanguard, and I would be dropping a few hundred on it, so I wanna know before if it'll fit before I go and buy it.And, if it isnt a direct fit, what kind of mods would be required to make it fit? Any info would be great.

Not familiar with it, would require more specific details (how it mounts, etc).

m102404: No, they are metal. The acutal type of metal I do not know, but they are high quality.

From what he told me when i asked about it, it fully extends over the receiver, and mounts to the top rail. So I'm not exactly sure if you would have to rethread the receiver or not. It doesn't sound like it, but I could be wrong.

"Yep, the Predator rails entend over the receivers rail. In the case of the P##X (P4X, P9X, P12X), the rail goes to the end of the receiver. If there is no X (P4, P9, P12) the rail goes to the second to last notch in the rail. That way you can use a rail mounted iron sight at the correct height for a gas block sight."

Simply put, yes. I'm not familiar with all AEG receivers, but my understanding is that G&P, G&G, TM, and CA all have the proper tolerances for an RS handguard/forearm. I can personally vouch for G&G. Additionally, the Predator series of rails, as Watase has shared, the upper portion of the monolithic rail can be load bearing if necessary. That said, the barrel nut is key in installation (the bugger that screws over the barrel clamping it to the upper receiver). In the case of the Predator series, it is not necessary to have this part screwed in all the way (7 turns, I believe); rather, you just need to have it grip by a handful of threads (the more, the better). Ultimately, the top rail will prevent the rail from rotating side to side and the barrel nut will keep it from sliding off the front. In the case that you have a gas system (as in a real Stoner) you would want to be 100% but in this case, we can settle for > 80%.

What I forgot to share with Watase is that the forearm is not the issue when mounting! Depending on the barrel and the threaded portion of the upper receiver, the barrel nut may not keep the two parts static. The solution is simple - get a retaining ring from anywhere and use that to add some material inside the barrel nut. That will, at the final turn you can achieve, make up for any possible remaining distance. My G&G barrel needed a retaining ring. My buddies ECHO 1 steel barrel did not. Both on G&G upper receivers. An AR15 armorers wrenchs makes a HUGE difference in insallation! Lemme see if I have some photos of the installation...

For starters, here are some photos of the AEG overall. Looks like Ima have to take some photos shortly and get them online.













The last one has a P12X on the top and a P9X on the bottom. 14.25" and 10.5" barrel lengths (w/o flash suppressor), respectively. I hope those help a bit, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't add anything at all. That said, I've been asked about the Predator rails enough to shoot some photos of how they install. Ill be back later to clarify and post the process.

No problem though I have more info for ya. Read this before dropping $300 on the rail!

Here is the rail itself. Basically a simple piece of metal... Very light, very strong.



This is the barrel nut. You can see the retaining ring I added to put some more material inbetween the nut and the barrel. Its a little tight thus the bowing of the ring.



Barrel flush with the ring inside the nut. This is what the assembly will ultimately be once the nut is screwed on the upper receiver.



This is what the entire rail will look like.



Barrel on the upper receiver. Note the little channel I cut to route the wires through. The barrel nut is a perfect circle leaving zero room for the wires. You will need to add it.



Screw the nut on. Slide the rail on top. I line it up to the back...



Crank down the screws on the top.



...Installed. Not hard, but not quite clockwork.
