Uh.. what time frame? and Cyprus? Bosnia/Croatia? Somalia?
Bosnia/Croatia an Somalia: Basics would be the OD uniform, PASGT helmet with UN blue cover, Jungle Boot style Desert Boots. An depending on time frame, '82 Pattern webbing or the old LBV. And a C7 with 5 mags. US Woodland boonie hat or the Canadian tan "tilley" hat(Somalia); was their a UN blue boonie? And theres also the UN Blue ball cap, but those would be pretty hard to find. An the old OD body armour. Dunno too much about the kit we had in the '70s for Cyprus.. aside from C1s(FN FALs) and Sten SMGs plus the OD uniform. Anyways, this is a pretty basic an easy set up.. a quick search on google or maybe even these forums would have gotten you quite a few pics. How modern? Like 2003 in Bosnia Op Palladium. So CADPAT an the CADPAT Tac Vest with a C7A1; but I think that was NATO.

I'm not looking at covering any specific mission, that is, unless I can't get good enough info on current issue kit. If not, I'll probably go with either Bosnia OD or CADPAT.

Current issue kit? Like what we have in Afghanistan? Well.. that ain't a UN/Peace Keeping mission. Early Bosnia was the UN. An I think late '90s(?) it became a NATO mission. |

Well, no, Afghanistan isn't peacekeeping. But UN peacekeepers are issued new kit along with everyone else, aren't they? I want to go with what they currently have as standard-issue kit.

Here are some photo's for Bosnia 93 that might help
You'll note that we didn't have any webbing or chest rigs. very low key we carried our mags in the pockets of the flak vest or in our pockets. Almost everything was standard issues. Execpt for the gortex boots and jackets everything was standard. And the helmet was the standard US kevlar helmet painted blue My only none issue comfy kit was a pair of US Army combat gloves, because I could clip them on to my beaner and a Norway army sweater. Tape on the upper right of the flak jacket is my name and blood type. Took a C9 sling and jerry rigged some para cord to attach it to my C7 and taped a field dressing onto the sling. We where issued plastic mags but I had a USMC friend of mine send me up a dozen US metal mags that I used instead. Side note, the first round was a tracer to see where the rounds where going and the 3rd to last round was a tracer to let me know that I was about to run out of ammo, had this on all my mags, 4 in the vest, 1 in the rifle and a fw more in the truck. Neat trick that worked great. Last edited by jakster; December 26th, 2008 at 09:48.. |

I dunno if the few troops we have in Bosnia still have the exact same kit as the guys in Afghanistan. But the current issue stuff is OD t-shirt, CADPAT uniform, helmet cover, an boonie. CADPAT Tac Vest an body armour. Small pack an desert boots, MKIII an MKIIII aswell as the Goretex Boots plus non issue an chit boots. And the C7A2 is the main rifle;dunno if theres any C8s in Bosnia. Basically thats it; basics anyway. |

I guess you could bodge a kit together for what the CF might wear if we were deployed under the UN right now...Toss in the UN roundel and brassard, with a powder blue helmet cover or beret.

I suppose it'd depend on the hostile situation...

Current 'peacekeeper kit' is just you average CF kit with a UN blue helmet cover and a brassard with the round UN flash. That's what's being used current on peacekeeping ops in places like Golan, Haiti, etc. Although in some photos, Canadian personel have just put the UN flash directly onto their Cadpats. I suggest searching on combat camera. There is also currently a CF issue UN blue boonie hat. Exactly the same as the Cadpat boonie, with neck flap and all, but in UN blue. But good luck finding one. I've only ever seen one, in person, at a gun show, and I snatched it up right away. Otherwise, there are chinese knock-off UN berets all over the place, most surplus shops seem to have them. Other option is trying to find a UN ball cap (UN blue ball cap with a UN flash on it), but I don't know if those are still used, I haven't seen any photos of them in use since the mid 90's. And trust me, I hunt down every single CF peacekeeping pic I can find (especially in the former Yugoslavia).
