Batten down the hatches! Secure your web browser!
For those worried about their private messages or even all of their ASC viewing being watched we have activated secure webbrowsing (ssl aka https). Our certificate is unsigned so you will be prompted to allow it on each visit unless you mark our certificate as trusted.
To use the secure server just add an s after the http like this https://airsoftcanada.com you should see the indicator for which ever browser you use. Last edited by Mantelope; December 12th, 2008 at 15:15.. |

Unfortunately, a lot of links on the forum will still redirect you to the unsecure, or regular http page. We're working on it.

SSL Certificate
If you're on a tight budget and looking for a FREE valid, signed SSL certificate, take a look at www.startssl.com. Just my little contribution to keeping the site running smooth
If whoever is running you web server is having trouble with the site just PM me. I'm a sysadmin working for a large canadian webhosting company so I can guide you through the startssl process easily.

It's pretty ghetto so far. Working on getting a more legit certificate and some other stuff. We'll keep you posted.

Actually folks, a lot of people are hitting ASC from the workplace. HTTPS traffic isn't typically intercepted and blocked by filtering software, so running the site through https in parallel ensures that people don't get screwed at work for viewing content that although legal, is politically incorrect and likely to get them in trouble.

When do I get the encrypted VPN tunnel? Maybe they should also impliement asymetric digital signatures to PMs as well. /sarcasm Seriously, has there actually been cause to impliment HTTPS?

Well I can see some people getting in trouble from work, also on shared connections using network monitoring software you can see what your peers are doing. A friend of mine in the US army found and reported a pedo that way. |

It would be important for people to correctly understand how HTTPS works, as to not be lulled into a false sense of security; most have probably already disabled some of the associated warnings their browsers would display, or otherwise may not fully grasp their significance if they popped up.
One that comes to mind right off the bat, most images are hosted off-site, so while text would be transferred via HTTPS the images (of guns, for example) would still get served via HTTP.
