M14 problem

I just bought a UTG M14, it is a tokyo mauri clone (yes I know get what you pay for). Ok, I bought a systema 120 spring and oil less bushings to upgrade the speed and put .25's in it. but now the bb's are going about 5 ft out of the gun and falling down. more like rolling out than shooting out. I am pretty sure i did something wrong (obviously) but I don't know what it was.

Things I think may have gone wrong:
I have a spring left over from the gear box but can't find where it goes.
and the gears wobble side to side a little bit.

this is the picture of the spring and internals. the spring is on the left hand side of the gear box, going of the picture.

It is a full Mauri clone so the parts should not be the problem. It is a Ver. 7 gear box. any help would be much appreciated.

The spring that's extra is the one on the far left right? That spring pushes the tappet (and nozzle) forward and without that, the nozzle will not go into the hopup unit which may explain why the BB's are rolling out the barrel.

The easiest way to install the tappet spring is to install the rest of the internals like you would normally and screw everything together. Once that's done hold the mechbox, with the nozzle pointing away from you, on the left shell there is a hole just under the cylinder. Put the spring in through there and that will push the tappet plate forward.

With the spring installed the tappet plate will reset its position every cycle and the nozzle will be properly inserted into the hopup mech.

On another note is there a hole in your cylinder? It looks like there may be from the picture (dunno if it's some weird thing due to the flash), if there is you'll want to replace that with a standard M14 cylinder right away. The M14 cylinder is not suppose to have a hole.

If your gears are wobbling, your new bearings are not the same dimensions as your old ones. You'll need to add new shims immediately and secure those gears.

DO NOT CONTINUE TO FIRE THE GUN WITHOUT ELIMINATING THE GEAR WOBBLE FIRST. You'll destroy your gears.

Is the hole on the end, bottom or top of the mechbox? I am probably asking too much but could you take a picture and show me? that would greatly help. This is my first aeg and this whole mech box is a pain. Thanks for your help Colin_S.

sumojoe14 at the moment I'm at work but I can take pictures for you tonight when I get home in about 5 hours. If there's a bit of movement between teh gears, The Saint is right you might need to do a better shimming job too.

sumojoe14 I circled the part where the tappet spring goes, hopefully that will help.
