changing bushings
If I change from plastic to steel bushings can I use the same shims or do I need new ones? One more question are all tappet plats plastic or are any steel?

You can keep the shims, the question is more of whether the new bushing is the exact same dimension as your old ones. As I understand it, aftermarket bushings are not all the same. If their dimensions differ in regards to width/thickness, you'd need to reshim to reflect that.
I've never seen a metal tappet.

Generally, when you do ANY bushing/gear/motor/grip upgrades, youu will need to re-shim your gears. You can re-use your old ones, but chances are, the placement will change.
There are no steel tappet plates in existence. |

Thanks for the information, this is new to me just trying to get a feel for things. I took a TM G36 and tour it apart to see if I could put it all back together.I did and it worked the same as when I started. I took pic's with my digital camera incase I needed to go back and it's a good thing because I had to look a few times. Now I think I will buy some parts to upgrade my UMG. I have always been a huge fan of the UMP and the UMG is an awsome replica very nice detail this is where I want to spend my money. O.K. if you had the money to spend what would you put into this gun to make it a Top notch gun?
