brian, i have the poly carb piston and piston head in my gun, aswell as an upgraded cylinder dead. Well, there was 2 m120 springs, that came with super speed gear packages (which are TOO fast on an 8.4v with that m120, mag cant feed fast enough) So i figured that i would just use one of those over a stock spring and cut 2 coils off. I am gonna be buying a lower spring, prolly the m100

I want something powerful enough for long range and accuracy and durable enough to take it. But I'm not sure if this may be over kill or not, like I said earlier I'm looking for comunity feedback on this before I order it.

Only thing I've planned to change in that set is the spring as its to strong for field limits here, I'm looking to use the SP100 insted.

I got a few kills out to 150ft last year when I was shooting 365fps with my MP5 and it's stock barrel. 0.25g BBs were used. It's more a matter of the shooter than the fps of the gun. Granted, you want enough to hurl the heavier BBs that far, but you don't need to get as close to field limits to do so. Is just tuning and practice.

Cutting the coils off will decrease spring tension... which makes your ROF go up even higher.

Thanks Droc, I'll talk to John about that spring and see if I could get it as a possible replacement.

Metal piston heads are made for:
a) louder sound on each shot
b) increased feeling of "recoil" on each shot.

Aluminum pistons are made to:
a) slow down the movement of the piston
b) increased feeling of "recoil" on each shot.
Thanks for the info, I guess it makes sense they would offer it then as they also sell mechbox's as replacements so a user can get the added recoil effect and loud "bang bang" noise from their gun knowing that a broken mechbox is not much more then a phone call to your local dealer.

The difference between Canada and Japan is that in Japan, they are limited to 1 Joule limits. Also, their winters do not get as cold as here, and even if they did, they play a lot of games indoors. They have much more facilities than we do here.
A 1 Joule v2 gearbox can take an aluminum piston set better at room temperature than in our -25 degree madness. lol

Of course it will.
Coil cutting is a well known method of reducing FPS without having to buy new springs.
It's like... lowering your car without actually buying lowering springs... cut a couple of coils off, and your car is lower. The difference with that is that the compression rate doesn't reflect the new change and you'll quickly find a neatly scratched bottom of your car after driving around with the new "upgrade."

For such a cheap part, I don't know why you'd want to worry about it so much and start cutting things up.

Generally I know guys who've cut springs, at the chrony station at a game, because their brand new spring + tightbore combo puts them over the field limit. Or new springs at the proper tension level aren't availaible.

Yeah, it's not a horrible move to make... perhaps the analogy I used was a bit harsh.

But like I was saying, if you're worried about excessive rate of fire, going to a lower spring tension won't help things at all. You might want to look in to your magazine to see why it can't feed, because most lowcaps should be able to keep up.
Also, look in to a higher torque motor because high speed gears with an M120 will put a lot of stress on your motor and battery.

Is there anything else you can do to lower your FPS if needed at a game? Say I'm right at 400 for one game (Random example btw) and the next game the limit for my type of gun is only 380, is there something I could buy to use only when I wanted/needed to that was easy to just... put on and lower the fps?
