[GBB] The Metal Slide
I have a Marui Hi-Capa 5.1 coming my way.
I intend to eventually modify it for its look. Please note as I said eventually as I do not wish to do that now. I first want to get a grip of a stock hand gun. I am a fan of the 1911 and wish to eventually keep this gun as a show gun and buy myself a P226 for a sidearm. Therefore I wish to modify it for aesthetics only. I am thinking of buying a short silver trigger which would match witht he already included silver hammer. I am also thinking of buying a Eagle 5.0 (STI) style metal slide. But then again, I think to myself; the gun already bears a plastic slide and its frame and springs must be built to maintain a plastic slide alive. If I install a metal slide on it, the recoil would probably feel better yet would there be chances of me killing my stock springs? Therefore my question is, for a Marui GBB, more specificaly the Hi-Capa 5.1, would it damage the springs, frames or mechanical parts if I installed a metal slide on it? And if yes, would custom springs fix the problem or a metal slide will always damage your handgun unless it comes stock full metal? Thank you for your time and willingness to help me solve this small problem.

if you are a fan of the 1911, why are you getting a 2011?
if you plan to upgrade the 5.1 with a metal slide, you should install guarder recoil springs for more strength. they usually run around $15 including the hammer one. simple? yups! cu Quote:

I'm sorry but should've clarified the 1911 look. I must also add that it is up until recently that I got hooked on the STI and SVI handguns Up until a few weeks ago I wasn't even aware of such beautifully crafted handguns. (I'm talking about the live ones here) And so I wish to reproduce that of the STI Eagle 5.0.
Thanks alot for the guarder recoil springs advice.

shooters design metal slides are quite good for the hicapa
Ive had no problems with installing the thing I ran the hicapa with the stock recoil spring for a while as it is quite stiff, but it definitely feels better with the stiffer spring in there http://www.airsoftcanada.com/gallery...hp?i=1838&c=24 KSC makes an STI eagle btw, and it will cost a lot less than metal-ing up a hicapa |

My Marui is already on its way so I'll metal-it up, hehe
I'll go look for Shooters' Designs slides, thanks.

yea, SD slides are the best. you don't have to do a thing for you to fit them on your gun where as if you go with other metal slide brands, you'll have to. example: prime, pgc, gng, grs....

if you're not gaming with i and want it purely for aesthetic appeal, why not just get a WA?
As for the springs, if it's just for looks, no need to upgrade anything to support the metal slide. Upgrading the recoil spring to an enhanced one is to support the heavier weight of the metal slide. Due to the increased weight, the blowback action will be slower and is why you would want a faster recoil spring, as well as more powerful gas |

I'm actually thinking of this slide:
http://www.uncompany.com/images/sd-gsms405b_big.jpg It will be for aesthetic use yet I want it to work. Until I buy myself a second handgun, most probably the P226, I will use the Hi-Capa. Are Western Arms that good? I sincerely thought the Tokyo Marui's were the top class for GBB.

WA feel and look great, but dont have the accuracy at range that TM's do
not to mention extra mags for WA's cost almost 1.5 x as much as TM mags the new SCW3's have a new hop up design which seems to be pretty promising(similar to TM), but I have not gamed with one myself |

So for shooting TM is still a top notch brand and for showing off your piece WA is a top brand.

I believed the newer SCW3's are a fixed hop design, which in someways is good and not so good in others. You need to find the perfect BB weight with the gas that you are currently using to effectively use it, but on the other hand you never have to adjust it
