Pistol Primary - Ultimate Airsoft CQB

Hey guys,

Like my previous thread said, I'm brand new to this but have been doing lot of reading. I have the Amoeba am-015 in mind but recently I've been thinking of purchasing and using a TM 5.1 Hi Capa pistol as my primary.

I plan to play mostly at UA CQB in Toronto and possibly Siege but that's across the city from me.

I don't anticipate much outdoor play since leaving the house and family behind on a weekend afternoon is not really practical. It's very likely I'll never play outside once.

Any thoughts from the experts here? I understand that mag capacity will be limited and the ongoing cost will be higher (expensive mags, needing more of them and ongoing gas) but I've played at UA a few times and see many players switching to their pistols very often. Pistols also look like fun. Makes me think - if I'm going to invest in a single CQB weapon, will the TM 5.1 be a practical gameplay choice?

A lot of people run pistols only for CQB; more effective and you can rush;

TM HiCapa is a great way to start; tons of parts for when things go south.

also speed soft.

Unless there's pistol only games, the advantage of having a pistol over a rifle is excessively minimal.

In my experience, and in a CQB field, going pistol only is a great idea. At the short distances you will not be "outgunned" by the rifles and the added maneuverability is just great.
Work on your sneakiness.

So having a pistol won't be a huge advantage, I get that...but I won't be at a severe disadvantage right?

with a rifle and a high cap you can run wild with your bbs. I tend to shoot about 300bbs PER game. If you go pistol, then you need to watch your shots, it would be closer to real lie situations. why not get a small SMG, mp5 for example?

Advantages and disadvantages of pistols in CQB:

Advantages:
+ Small and light
+ Somewhat faster reloads
+ Can crawl and sneak easily
+ Much easier to deal with point blank situations (less powerful so it won't hurt your opponents, small and fast to point)
+ Easy to switch hands when the situation requires it

Disadvantages
- Avoid large areas, AEG spammers will outgun you
- Less ammo... not much a big disadvantage in shorter games, but in long games it can be
- GBB pistols don't like cold, but that also applies to all other gas guns

Overall I find that the plus and minuses balance each other, if you have to go in large open areas, do so with your teamates who have AEGs and can match your opponents' volume of fire, and watch their backs so they can fully concentrate on the enemy.

If you have the chance to play in real capacity CQB games, even with only ~15 rounds per mag, pistols always shine because AEG users lose a LOT more ammo than you do.

Thanks, this is super helpful!
