I haven't even been wearing a rigger belt. I wear a bloody leather belt with a silver belt buckle. Mind you I only keep a holster and 2 mag pouches on there, but it's much more useful than a battle belt in my eyes. My battle belt is for when I need more stanag mags and such

i have had the HSGI full battle belt(inside and out) for a year and i love it, sometimes i think i should ditch the plate carrier and just run the belt.

I keep my sub-load light to avoid discomfort and my hips getting sore. I like being able to run/climb unhindered, so I also dropped my drop-leg platforms for one small panel with a high single strap for my holster and a small extension panel on the other side. If you need any heavy items off of your carrier, then put it on your butt, not on the sides or front of your sub-load. I run three P-mags on my left hip, I wouldn't run any if they weren't so light. Ammo, holster, rain later, loader, etc are on my sub-load. I still run a PC because I like having a lot of water and magazines with me, too much for just a belt based load-out. Also, if I ever wanted to add food, extra ammo, comm setup, etc, I wouldn't want it on my belt. The trick is to get a light-weight low profile PC and water carrier, mag pouches, and so on. Many modern plate carriers are easy to wear and comfortable, not to mention weigh less than two pounds naked. I believe the JPC is just under one pound. The only way of run just a belt would be for a pistol game.

Personally I think the belt is also good for carrying an air tank. That is the primary reason I went with harness/belt setup over a vest.

Bringing this back up for this season
I'm thinking I may add one of these to my kit. Are you guys running this in conjunction with your plate carriers? I was thinking in particular about the HSGI slim version that just came out. |

I have been running a sure grip with my PC but I'm actually considering changing to a regular belt with an HSGI drop leg panel instead.
The belt and PC work ok together but I run into some inference issues occasionally, even with a small PC as high on the chest as possible. I also don't find the battle belt super comfortable for kneeling or prone, which I do quite a bit playing outdoors in the bush. Finally I find I have to do the suregrip up super tight (almost uncomfortably so) to get keep it from falling down and that's only with a pistol and 3 pmags on it. If you're getting a sure-grip, recommend the cobra belt... The other inner belt sucks IMO. |
