In my initial post i quoted Brian's statement about "conversationnal" distance, so my posts were refering to that kind of situation. Again, all I'm saying is that this kind of technic is taught in self-defense classes, obviously considering that you use it if you don't have any safer option.

What's meant by "two different perspectives" is the difference between a civilian being attacked as opposed to a police officer in service, a soldier during warfare, etc... There are obviously various situations involving knife attacks. Is running away ALWAYS the only option? I doubt so.

The rest of your post is mostly a caricature, I get that nobody has super powers. However, there's a difference between reading minds and situationnal awareness... One may not believe in the need to train in self-defense, considering that it's best to simply avoid dangerous situation. But the point to self-defense trainning is actualy to avoid those situations, and knowing what to do if you can't avoid them. I'm talking about self-defense specific classes, not necessarily martial arts, because martial arts serve another purpose than just plain self-defense.

I'm far from "knowing it all" about the subject thought, but I have an interest and I like to share opinions about it.
