Another thing to check is to make sure the field you play on allows new snipers some fields will not allow a new sniper to play as they are unaware of MED's and such creating a unsafe play zone

Also, many games require people who field sniper rifles to also carry a secondary weapon. So you won't have to buy one gun when you are starting but two, making it even more expensive to start.

Yup that too and theres the whole Veto/ BA Cert thing and i really dont wanna get started on that whole can of worms

Ahh fuck it....here we go

Some fields will not allow a sniper to play unless he has certification this is the BA Cert Thing " Totaly bogus in my opinion" but thats my opinion

The Veto thing is where if anyone on the field does not want you to play the roll of a sniper you at that point cannot play as a sniper and must switch out to a more common roll as infantry with a AEG anyway so...........

Just Buy a AEG first and save yourself alot of headaches

You could get a DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle...I think) instead of a dedicated bolt action sniper rifle. I've seen various M16 builds (along with the SR line) on the classifieds that have extended barrels, bipods and scopes. This way you can get a feel for sniping by staying on semi and engaging targets from far, but can easily switch to full auto and use it as an AEG when things get hot.

Actually come to think if it. Soldiers in Vietnam had more freedom to use what they wanted as it were.
Oh no, I got called a "noob" on the internet.

You're the one who said it was "deployed as a sniper rifle" and that is not the case

After the report, a series of tests and reports by the United States Department of the Army followed that resulted in the decision to cancel the M14.[12] The M16 was then ordered as a replacement for the M14 by direction of Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara in 1964, over the objection of those Army officers who had backed the M14 (other factions within the Army research and development community had opposed the M14 and the 7.62x51 mm round from the start). Though production of the M14 was officially discontinued, some disgruntled troops still managed to hang on to them while deriding the M16 as a frail and underpowered "Mattel toy"[13] or "poodle shooter". In January 1968 the U.S. Army designated the M16 as the "Standard A" rifle, and the M14 became a "Limited Standard" weapon. The M14 rifle remained the standard rifle for U.S. Army Basic Training and troops stationed in Europe until 1970.
The U.S. Army also converted several M14s into the M21 sniper rifle, which remained standard issue for this purpose until the adoption of the M24 SWS in 1988.

The last two lines of your quote demonstrate that it was deployed as a sniper rifle. M21 is just a target grade M14 with a scope.

Sort of true, if yer BA is 400-450 i doubt anyone will have an issue, but in order to get the most out of yer BA youll have to get certified so you can run 500 or 550fps field size permiting.
I love my BA but I'll tell you 1000$ or so in upgrades and a cpl years of tinkering it is finnaly shooting decently, yes decently still get my ass handed to me half the time as good a si hide and as far and str8 i can shoot, with 500fps on .20's at the end of the range there still isnt enough energy in the bb to make poeople call their hits lol im not tryin to stop ya from sniping it is rewarding but ill say you wont have fun doing it for a long time and even then half the time im stalking someone with my pistol or grabbin an aeg off a dead guy just to "get in the game" lol
good luck either way
have fun.

If it's your first rifle, don't. There are so many for this, and most have already been said.

Just get an AEG, or even a DMR for your first rifle if you want a bit more range.

deploy a. To position (troops) in readiness for combat, as along a front or line.
b. To bring (forces or material) into action.
c. To base (a weapons system) in the field.
