Did I fry my battery?

Alright here goes,
I'm an idiot when it comes to electricity...shouldnt have migrate from Gas blow back... (I first elecuted myself when I was 5 my sticking two keys into the plug and grabbing both)

anyways:

I just got a Firefox Lipo 11.1V battery, out of box havent charged but it has some charged already.
I was gonna make an adapter so I could charge the battery, unforunately before I could tape the two ends so it wouldnt conduct electricty it touch each other.
The result was smoke, awesome smell, and the battery pack heating up.
The connection was less than 1 sec, right now I remove it and let it sit outside to cool down and prevent exploding if it occurs. My question is did I ruin my battery pack?

PS: This is coming from a person whose family member are involving in Electrical Engineering, and Fuel Cells...ya Im that dumb.

Yes. Your li-po is fried.

Well, is the pack ballooned up in anyway compared to it stock?

Ya can't short them things out.

On the next pack, you could stager the cut of the leads, so they don't touch one another. And use good German made banana-type plugs (like the r/c powerboat dudes).

with most battery or electrical connections that I cannot turn the power off, I only strip one side at a time. solder the stripped side and heat shrink, then move over to the other side.

if it's unavoidable to have both wires stripped at the same time, then use electrical tape over one end while working on the other.

I can't see you having damaged the battery significantly unless you notice a change in it's overall shape as mentioned above.

If it only touched a sparked for a second, it will be fine. If it had prolonged contact (which it probably didn't since it didn't explode), it would most likely be damaged.

For a NIMH or NICD I wouldn't worry.. however for a LIPO... I wouldn't use it.

I don't trust some of the china brands. Yes I know that 9x% of all Lipo batteries are made in 4 factories on this planet 3 in China and 1 in Japan, but still...

squeeze the battery pack in your hands and inspect it to see if the cells are damaged by removing the heat shrinking (you can have it rewrapped at batteryworld in Edmonton for 1 dollar). depending on your charger you can plug the balancing lead into the pack and it will tell you what the Voltage and Mah of each of the cells is. You could have one blown cell in the pack or all of them.

If it all looks good charge it someplace safe so if it smokes or catches fire you won't have a catastrophe.
