sniper scope

So I have a KJW M700P, and I gota find myself a sniper scope for it.

I really like those scopes that has the front lens in a red tinted color...looks really cool.
Where do I find those ones?

Why are they red anyways...and how come you don't see red when you look through the scope.

I've also seen blue tinted ones...though not as cool as red...

I believe its to stop the lense from reflecting light. If it was to reflect light your enemy could see you.

Easiest place I can think of is Marstar Canada, online store with various types of those scopes for a decent price. Why they have the coating, am not sure, likely to reduce the IR and UV that would enter the scope.

In addition to minimizing target-side reflections, I think the main reason as far as shooting optics is concerned is for contrast with the reticle. Notice that most, if not all, red dots have a red-orange coating. That gives a slightly blue-green hue to image which the red dot is easily visible against even under relatively poor light conditions (such as very bright wash-out).

My Aimpoint T-1 clone has a green coating. Same reason, it's a red/green dot, and the coating gives the picture a nice purple-magenta tint that the green is VERY easy to see against. The red is less visible, but it gives a good 'low contrast' range for darker settings.

Hehe I don't care I'm looking for a sexy red lens scope...about 3-9x @ 40mm.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Oh and what's the extra extension part I see people attach onto the front of the scope?

Bushnel makes some good quality products.

The extension you are talking about is called a sunshade.

Red is for 2 things.

1) As previously stated, it stops reflections of the scope that give away your position.

2) It stops UV rays from being magnified into your eye, which can blind you eventually. (We're talking professional snipers that look through their scopes for hours at a time, here, not airsoft, but still)

Bushnell makes a pretty good 3-9x scope. Should be around $100. Possibly under, maybe higher depending on where.

Thanks. What about NCStar and Leapers?
And how do I know which ones have tinted red lens? (I have looked myself but none of the product specs say anything about that and the product picture angles rarely point at the front lens)

Sorry for the pickiness haha.

i have heard that NCStar has an amazing guaranty service, that once you buy a scope you could brake it and as for a new one as much as you want. of course itcould not be true at all (may be only in the US).

I bought a REX brand scope for my air rifle, China clone (not airsoft clone) of the Bushnell model, had the red tinting and excellent optics. Haven't looked down a Zeiss before but it was damn crisp. NCStar is ok for airsoft, you get what you pay for. Leapers makes some ok stuff as well, still you get what you pay for.

I gave you the link to buy what you are looking for, is the only place locally that you'll get one. Saw your wanted thread up on ASC for a 3-9x40 scope that MUST have a red lense, you won't find anyone on here selling one (or even owning one, will be very rare) so just order from Marstar or your gonna be scopeless for a while.

http://www.marstar.ca/ac-optics/l-standard.shtm

Looks like you'll only find green or blue tinted front lense, red is very hard to find in a sniper scope, is literally only used for red dot sights that are typically 1x power.

LOL...on real optics the tinting is there to enhance the transmission of desireable wavelengths of light to your eye (as said, by filtering other wave lengths). They do little to nothing to minimize glare/flash from the front of the lense (i.e. someone in front of you will still see the glint off your lense if you're looking towards a light source). There's red, blue, green tints...depends on the chemicals used for the applied filter.

A sunshade (aka extension tube) is there for 3 reasons:
1. To minimize/eliminate the reflection of light off your lense to someone looking at you. To do this, the sunshade needs to be at lease 1x as long as the diameter of your objective (I get them mixed up...the lense at the front) lense. 1.5x-2 is better...but more for reasons following. Will not help if you are shooting into the light source or at a very shallow off angle to it.

2. To minimize glare/extra light coming into your scope. You want to see what you're looking at. Excessive light from the sky above you doesn't always help...and can "wash-out" what you're looking at. Interiors of sunshades are not just black...they're matte black, or even micro-textured, so side light is not reflected in. A really long sunshade will cut out a lot of light....but your target might seem really "shadowed" or dim.

3. When shooting real steel rifles...especially in hot sunny days with not much wind...you'll very quickly get mirage off the barrel. The air just over the barrel (unfortunately right down the sightline of your optics) will look like it's "boiling" and distort your sight picture. A really long sunshade will extend out and block some of this heated air. Benchrest shooters will go so far as to place a long piece of paper down the length of their barrel to deflect the mirage. Mirage is more noticeable with high powered optics vs. lower powered ones (i.e. 36x vs. 3x). Mirage from the heat of the barrel isn't really a factor for airsoft (although other mirage indicators might be).
