You need the same type of gearbox, V2.

All M4's use a version 2 mechbox....you need to replace it with a version 2 (version 3's are a different shape)
to fix it: 1. Buy a replacement v2 mechbox shell 2. swap the internals and everything else into the new shell...reshim, etc...fingers crossed it works. Down grade spring to m90. 3. Break that one in the cold as well and realize that you'd be better off with a V3 gun for the winter...or a PTW if you have to have an M4. (just kidding) |

hmmm i think you'll need another KWA mechbox shell... i have a kwa m4a1 and the shell is different (reinforcement-wise) than a standard marui-spec one... not sure on that one but migh be worth looking into...

If you play outside with an M4/version 2 mechbox in the winter, you are just looking for trouble. Version 2 mechboxes are notorious for breaking in the cold with stock springs. It's an inherent flaw in design, and it's not even fixed by so-called "reinforced" mechboxes, which have all their reinforcement at the gears (where it's redundant and unnecessary) and not at the front of the mechbox, at the cylinder window (where it's actually required). You can try to alleviate some of the stress on the mechbox by radiusing the corners in the cylinder window, but even that is not a proper fix.
If you intend to continue playing outside in the winter, I highly recommend you invest in an Ajax Customs Shock Transfer System: http://v2fix.com/ http://www.tacticalairsoftsupply.com...er-system.html

Any standard V2 shell would probably work for him.

Not a sure bet, when the KWA M4s first came out, it was reported that their body pin hole is slightly offset compared to other version 2 boxes. Better check with KWA to make sure they fixed that before buying just any version 2.

I had the same problem with my KWA gearbox recently, except it was caused by me forgeting to loctite my modify piston head to the piston and it breaking loose. The KWA gearbox is NOT a standard V2 their new 2GX gearbox is coming out soon, another option is to contact them through their help desk at http://support.kwausa.com/access/una....kwausa.com%2F They may have some shells around the shop that they can part with.

The V2 Shock transfer system fix will not work on KWA because of the hop up unit being different (two peice). Also if you get the new 2GX bear box it will be strong at the front (one of the new improvements). If you go to the KWAUSA.com forum there is a post on fixing it by brazing it if you have someone that can oxy-acet. heat it and braze it for you.
Were you using the stock spring? |
