Another Question (ACU / UCP)

How big are ACU's in Canada? What's everyone honest opinion on it?

ACU's are great, we've needed a replacement for the old BDU pattern for a LONG time.
I've got multicam ACU's and apart from truspec making their small regular jacket too big, its all real comfortable.

FYI 'ACU' is the material pattern, ARPAT is the name of the camouflage
Works well in very remote areas, I find it makes it alot harder for people to see their BB's when shooting at you.
Nobody in Manitoba wears it anymore though

We actually call it UCP down here. At least, that's what is on the tag. Shame we are switching camo's...

UCP isn't half bad when used in the right time. Usually around fall or late winter when there's lots of deadfall and less green foliage.

I use it up here; it's great with lots of bare rock, sandy areas, and pale-barked birch/poplar trees...

UCP (Universal Camouflage Pattern) is the more commonly used name for the pattern in official sources.

Granted its maybe not the best pattern for North American forests, it looks like it'd work well in spring when there's a lot of dead vegetation/leaves and in mountainous terrain (seen a few pics of that, it was quite effective). There's actually some pretty good pics (not biased like the Multicrap ones) of UCP working.

far left

I think part of the problem is there's a lot of bad pics of UCP where it looks blue-ish grey (bad color balancing?)

UCP-D looks interesting.

Looks like someone threw mud at him... I'm intrigued, though. I could see it working even better for me up here than regular UCP.

UCP-D looks like an abortion. The problem with UCP is that it was touted as a 'Universal' camo pattern but still ends up only being somewhat adequate in certain environments.

They should issue AOR1 and AOR2 force-wide and call it a day. Imagine all that cash spent on developing UCP and ABU. Blue tigerstripe? WTF over?

It's supposed to be a coyote brown color they added. It stems from a study which showed the MarPat color scheme was more effective in Afghanistan. UCP-D is undergoing field trials along with Multicrap.

For mountain/rocky areas it seems pretty good. For any kind of woodland use it's a joke imo.

I find UCP-D to be good looking and I see it being effective in not overly green forests.

Like the forest at the former zone-27 field. US woodland and Cadpat made a terrific camo. I once had a guy in woodland standing 15 feets from me, kneeled on a little muddy bank, bellow some tall pine tree, and I could not see him on the edge of my vision untill he moved. I was scared!

That mean, Brown win in danse vegetation with pine trees.
Add a little gray for rocks, and it's a good mix of both world IMO.

Plain ACU or UCP suck in so much places here in Canada. It might look good in still pictures, but it stand out like hell in forest compared to other camos. Simply because it look white on a brown green background.

I liked UCP-D the first time, when it was called Flecktarn.

I like our UCP. Where I live, it doesn't work for shit. Of course down here in TX on the lower side a least, it's very green. So UCP sticks out like a sore thumb. The material though... Well, I'd rather be wearing UCP on a hot day then old school BDU's the BDU's down here (at the Naval Base) are soo f'ing hot. Not to mention the Army Combat Shirt is a life saver!
