Chinese crime ring turns Airsoft guns into real guns

http://nv.qianlong.com/33530/2009/09...21@5173026.htm

Maybe someone who understands Mandarin can translate the video but the jist of initial reports that I got is that a Crime ring in China was turning airsoft and pellet guns into guns that were lethal.

There are reports that the modified guns can release 12.10 Joules of energy based on tests done at the police station. (EDIT: Although that's highly unlikely but that's what I get based on the translation, it's probably 1.210 Joules (decimal place shifted during translation maybe?))

I'm not trying to start a "the sky is falling" scare but discuss this anyways.

Also note that most guns would just explode or you could only use it once if you managed to turn an airsoft into a real firearm. Also NOTE that the guns involved were NOT purely airsoft this included pellet guns too.

EDIT: Thank you SOCINCO for bringing some context into this "story".

Meh, i can take a metal pipe from home depot, stick something in it + gunpowder or a couple firecracker and turn something innocent into a 'lethal weapon'.

Heck i can go kill people with spoons... Or a cup

Any garage or the contents under an average sink can be used with lethal effect.

you could make 1-shot rifles and guns with some airsoft frames but not much more.
plus the 6mm caliber is not very convenient...
you could probably upgrade a co2 weapon to make it dangerous...

To be honest, to me, it just seems like they would have taken the casings of one? Because I think everyone here/we all know that an AEG cannot be made into a real gun. You would have to change the barrel, change internals, etc. Like I said, probably just took the casings. And like one guy said "I can just buy a metal rod and put some gunpowder in it, and it can be a lethal weapon". Very true.

i like how they used cardboard as a medium to test on. I'm pretty sure 12.10J(900FPS) can't kill a person. If you know how to read/listen to chinese you will realize that these guys are generalizing EVERYTHING. My guess is they're trying to convey negative images of guns instead of cracking down on crime rings. Seriously though, what kindda ghetto fire arms expert uses cardboard on a chair? I call BS on that one. If anybody wants me to translate the video i can post the subs here. Cheers

Lol, airsoft guns would be a horrible base for real guns... WAY too expensive for one shot throw aways.

My AUG can shoot 400 fps with 0.2, or 1.4 Joules.

They would not be dangerous at all if they are shooting 1.2 Joules.

Criminal organizations have been doing this for years, I think there was even a guy in Toronto years back that was caught doing the same thing.
