I can has some general knowledge?
Okay seriously... You're all going to hate me for asking this and I'm pretty sure this should have gone in Noob talk or w/e but...
I feel really... vulnerable in that I have my own gun yet I know nothing about how the things work. I'm still newb to airsoft, Computers are my thing, not this stuff... But I need to learn, so I'm not pestering you guys with every little question that comes along (wait a second >_>) So I have some general knowledge inquiries for anyone who is SMRT 1. Gearboxes: How do they work, what exactly are they, how do they propel the BBs etc 2. Hopup units: same questions except for the last 3. Technical terms/jargon: I can't really name any but what are some technical terms I might need to know to get by in this crazy airsoft world? Now you don't have to be an Encylopedia... I'm just looking for some basics spoken in plain English. After which I will scour Google for anything else I'm still curious about. So yeah, keep it short and sweet for your own sanity HALP

The BBs are propelled by tiny elves that throw the BBs out the barrel.
Hop-up is when the elves use a jump-shot to get more range. Thus I have exhausted my knowledge of the inner workings of AEGs. Gas Blow-Backs are propelled by elf farts.

The smell depends on your elf's diet.

Was very helpful, Yuhaoyang, considering I have curiosities similar to Brock's. With that in mind, apparently Mechbox.com is a good place to go for information on the internal workings of your AEG, and I've garnered a lot of knowledge just from lurking in there.

Manitoba has a plethora of awesome gun techs. http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=80709 I'm actually working on putting together a cut-down mechbox to demonstrate how everything works... It's alot harder than I thought lol |

Actually I remember a gif somewhere that showed the mechbox and it's workings and such. I'll see if I can dig up a link. It basically showed the gear movement, pulling the spring back and such. I believe there was also one for GBB's too (just a diagram of the gas propelling the BB).
Anyone else know the link I'm talking about??? It looked similar to this one except animated. http://airsoftguide.co.uk/img/aeginside.jpg EDIT: Yep.... Like that video posted... I didn't bother to actually watch the video, I only read the replies.
