A Hate on for Snipers?
Why is it across the board it seems that people seem to think sniper rifles are dangerous or something? What makes an AEG capable of 16+ bb's per second all firing at 350fps or more (my buddies SCAR fires .25's@380fps) in tight groupings, easily ensuring multiple hits, this is safer than a sniper rifle capable of shooting a .36 or .4 bb at the same velocity? All ballistic goggles (including paintball) can withstand a shotgun blast at 10 feet. You can't tell me that 1 bb hurts more than 4-5 or more.

How is this a newbie question?

Well, shooting .25 at 380 (about 425 with .2) is not game legal at all in most of Canada, so that's not even up for comparison.
People are not against snipers. They're against noobs starting out with high powered sniper rifles. Sniper rifles allow velocities typically up to 450 fps at most games. At velocities over 400 fps (with .2g), it becomes dangerous. You have the serious potential of not only breaking skin, but also embedding a BB in the skin and requiring medical attention to get it removed. Typically, aisoft snipers are known and experienced members of the community who have proven themselves to be able to use a high powered gun safely. Experienced snipers regard minimum engagement distances, and are good enough shots to tag a person on their body or vest, rather than a shot on exposed skin. That's something a noob wouldn't know about or be able to pull off at range. And the fact you have to ask, despite the fact that it's posted in pretty much all sniper-related threads on this board just illustrates that point. Now, with a low-powered sniper rifle shooting under 400 fps, it's not as much of a safety issue, but becomes an issue that the sniper will be useless. The sniper will be well within range of AEGs (a 'real' airsoft sniper will have a longer effective range than AEGs). Then the said noob sniper's 1 shot / 2-3 seconds becomes pretty useless when up against an AEG's 7+ rounds per second.

Newbie Tank is appropriate for all newbie content, whether it be a question or a comment.
No one hates snipers or their rifles. We hate newbies who show up and immediately beeline towards being a sniper, without actually understanding the difference between real sniping and airsoft sniping. And yes, a sniper rifle capable of discharging a 0.36g or 0.40g at 380fps is considerably more dangerous than an AEG firing 0.25g at the same velocity. Even though the muzzle velocity remains a constant, there is a big difference in muzzle energy between the three weights. Basic physics. And goggles only cover the face.

1 BB can do more damage than 4-5 others. The point is that snipers are more dangerous especially in the hands of a new player who doesn't know about where you shouldn't hit, and don't know the minimum fire distances.

The heavier the BB the harder the impact, even though its within a fraction of a gram, it still makes a difference, and you will feel it.

Generally bolt action rifles shoot much hotter than AEGs in order to overcome the lack of rate of fire. This would easily result in alot more injuries than an AEG. And its not also just a question of the goggles, but also the body hits. This sport is not about hurting people, its about having fun.

If a sniper rifle shoots 450 with .2, with .36 it's shooting only about 330. However, that heavier BB will preserve its muzzle energy over a much longer distance. Whereas a .2g will have lost a lot of its velocity and energy by the time it strikes a target 50 feet away, the heavier BBs will NOT lose their energy. And that makes them much more dangerous over a much loner range.

A paintball is not likely to ever be embedded in you, but an airsoft be BB sure can, I've seen it, and at far less than 500 fps with 0.20g.
Some rifles are capable of 600+ fps with 0.36g BBs, and not all fields regulate velocity uniformly either. And, I hate snipers.

And you can't compare paintball to airsoft with danger issues. There is no way a Paintball will get stuck in you. A BB will |

Well, saying you're not a noob when you're new to the community means nothing. You have to prove yourself. Paintball experience counts for nothing when it comes to airsoft. That's like an auto mechanic claiming he's qualified to be an aircraft mechanic because he works on engines.
And your question was answered. You either choose to ignore it or simply don't understand. Either way, good luck getting into any games with a sniper rifle if you haven't proven yourself to the community. Perhaps you should just stick to paintball.

So what is my buddy supposed to do with his SCAR its brand new, lith-ion battery, kit cost him a thousand bucks. Chrono'd with a radar chrony with .25 double polished at 380 fps. How are you supposed to lower that? They aren't adjustable like paintball guns
