How does webbing work?

I have had lots of kits but i have never understood webbing. What i would like to know is how it works, the pros and cons to webbing, and why i see alot of people trying it? It seems like a fasinating idea but I am not willing to try it until I understand it. Any help or links to the answer are appreciated Ive done a google search it tell you about it but not the questions I wanted answered. Also I couldn't find much on the boards searching. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Webbing is usually a belt with suspenders to support the weight: assorted pouches can be attached to the belt.

Like any load bearing system, the point is to carry your stuff (first and foremost your mags). Webbing is cheap, which may be why it's common, but it's far from optimal unless you're looking to replicate a specific era impression. Modern vest and body armor systems are far superior.

web gear come before tatical vests ,good if you wear body armour ,only the shoulder straps come in contact with the upper torso !
every country had webbing at some point ! now its mostly vests!

Web Gear / Belt Kit.

Well basically before the Chest Rig and the Assault Vest, you had Webbing/Belt Kit.

It usually consists of a Belt, Yoke or Shoulder Harness and Pouches. The type and number of pouches are up to you. You typically would have a series of Ammo Pouches, Two Utility Pouches Large, Butt Pack Type Pouch and then any other pouches that fit your needs. Belt Kit can be cheaper than a Chest Rig or Assault Vest, but can be more cumbersome. It comes down to personal choice.

Ok I think I understand now. Seems overly simple! I guess sometimes the best route is the easy route lol. I may look at one then as they seem to be less cumbersome Since im a heavy gunner I dont have to carry as much... thanks for the info! opcorn:

Webbing is ideal for dismounted operations since it lets you balance the weight AROUND your body instead of loading everything on the front of you, which leads to back problems.
It's also tends to be favored my machine gunners since they can hang 200rnd boxes on the front instead of having it on the sides or back as some vests are set.
