Biodegradable BBs

Some friends of mine bought some biodegradable BBs and something told me that it could be bad for their guns. What're the chances that biodegradable BBs will break and mess up their hop ups or mech boxes or whatever?

PS: They're Cybergun 0.20g if that makes any difference.

Well, They get really picky about moisture, If they get wet, they will inflate and get stuck in your barrel and do some nasty damage. Plus, their diameter is pretty inconsistant. i'd avoid.

Bio BBs, regardless of brand, all tend to be of substandard quality. they could result in jams of the barrel, hopup, or just jam up the magazine.

There should be a couple of members around who play in Finland, where Bio's are required by LAW to be used in airsoft. They should be able to refer you to the good brands....

I dunno, I play with Bio BB's with a TM / Systema barrel and I haven't had any problems. I would just suggest cleaning the barrel / hop up and lubing mags (which you should be doing anyways).

Hey there. I've been using G&G bio-bb's. weight wise they go up to .28 and have had no problems even with a 6.03 tightbore.

Bio BB's don't actually degrade significantly faster than regular BB's so saving the planet is really a moot point. If they actually did degrade faster I would consider using them (and taking the cost hit) but for cost and quality vs saving the planet I would go with regular BB's for now, maybe in the future I would use.

@ Panda: My home is in Vancouver and I find it's really humid a lot of the time does the ambient humidity affect the BB's? I was just wondering I mean I would go with Bastards when I get back but just for the sake of knowing.

I have bio .2's in my m3 and you notice the imperfections in the spread. Sometimes 1 bb will veer right a little more then the other two but with non bio bb's they also tend to have a much better polish and all 3 bb's keep a decent grouping and predictable spread.

I've never really thought about it. I've never played in the rain, so I wouldn't know. I've never really paid attention to ambient humidity, so I'm not sure. But I do store them in:

A: the bag it came in
B: inside a bigger ziplock
C: in a rubber maid with all my crap

I also throw in one of those "dissicant" (spelling?) moisture absorbing things that come with electronics / some food products to make sure there's no extra moisture getting in.

bio bbs have also been known to break on mesh goggles causing the debris to go past the mesh = bad.
Panda is referring the oxygen absorbers that you usually find in food products.

I've heard that too... Just knowing that even if nobody else is using bio bb's I would never wear those mesh goggles.

I know a few players that use mesh goggles, they are not main stream, but they are common enough in ontario games. There is no fogging, and you rarely have to replace the lense, ect. Most of players, unless they are new know not to use bio bbs, hosts usually confirm this before the start of the game if someone is using mesh goggles.

Although it can be said that the low quality bbs may also shatter, like the crappy tire ones you cna see the seams on, but no one really wants to mess their barrel up testing those.
