EOTech alternatives...
I was hoping to grab a G36C top rail for my G36K and mount a magnified FTS EOTech setup, so basically an EOTech FTS magnifier as well as an EOTech HWS.
Then I saw the price of EOTech gear... Right... So I guess I'm looking for some decent EOTech knock-offs and I've got no idea where to start. I'm looking for some recommendations on an FTS magnifier and HWS-like sight that uses AA batteries...

Get age verified and you will have a multitude of accessories, perhaps including Eotech clones, in the Classifieds.

He doesn't have to get age verified to buy optics on ASC when he can get them anywhere online. He's not asking for guns or receivers. Optics are something you can buy anywhere, and a quick google or ebay search would return literally hundreds of online dealers. And they're not restricted items in any way, so they can be imported by anyone.

And the closest civilian alternative to the real EOTech is the Bushnell Holosight. It's essentially a civilianized 551 without night vision mode. It's a true holosight. I've read that it was made by EOTech for Bushnell, and that Bushnell made them under licence for the civilian market. Not sure which is the case. The black models retail at about $340 US. And they're legal for export from the US by dealers. I've seen a couple of these selling for around $250 on ebay. But it doesn't use AA batteries. The best quality replica out there right now is the Hurricane 552. It has a a bright reticle, little to no ghosting, and runs on AAs.

the holosight thing.. is that when the red/green reticule moves around in the glass frame if you move but no matter what angle you look through it at youll still shoot on target?

Most RDS will have the effect of a true "holosight" just by virtue of:
a) your ranges of engagement where the sight is effective are very close b) your gun ain't that accurate anyways But the HurricanE is the best of the clones, but for it's price, you can almost get a real 552 used. And magnifying their 552 is not that bad, not as good as the real thing, but you're not needing the accuracy of the real one for airsoft use. If you can swing it, buy the real one. There's other things that a real EoTech doesn't do that all clones do, like bleeding light out the front lens. Not cool in low-light games, as it will give you away. There's plenty of real EoTechs in JOC, as well as clones. Compare them out, but avoid the cheap clones, they're garbage.

I used to have a Bushnell holosight and I saw zero difference in reticle placement, movement, or aiming ability over my HurricanE 553. The only difference is the HurricanE has a brighter max setting for really sunny days (and throws visible light out the front of the sight), and the Bushnell had a much lower minimum setting which was perfect for absolute pitch black night games (no light visible at all out the front except on the highest settings.)
Have handled a real EOTech 553, Bruce in Montreal has one on his PTW, the thing is stupid nice, absolutely gorgeous build, amazingly clear reticle, insane battery life, and around a $500-700 price tag. |

On the replicas, what batteries do the 551 and the 553 use?
