Arrow Need Pro's Opinion on G&G vs CA

On the subject of M4's or the GR16's and so on... Who really is the best at making the best AEG.. G&G or Classic Army? ...

And yes... I did do the research... But still like to hear it from the Canadian pro's opinion.

Thanks

CA.

G&G's bodies are crap... Some sorta con-fuckered metal-infused plastic.

CA's use a good quality of Aluminum and are 100% compatible with TM upgrades, I've heard of some G&G's having some tolerance issues.

yes, but they are getting better. that being said, you just put in a few cheap upgrades, and its gameable.

I finally upgraded my CA M15 rifle at the 20 000 round mark. Opened it up, and other than the usual dirt, the parts looked like new. The only part that had any signs of wear was the part on the tappet plate that contacts the nub on the sector gear. I'd say that was pretty good.

Yeah half of the CA's Ive owned had crappy internals, the other half had some of the best stock internals....

Seems I got a good one in that case. Over 20,000 rounds through it and it's bone stock, and just now the piston and tapet plate are showing signs of wear.

I have had intermittent electrical problems though.

Having owned 3 different CA M15A4 variants in the past, then my first new gen G&G GR16 R4 RIS I have to say G&G really surprised me.

The G&G metal bodied rifles are made out of magnesium and may not be the strongest but the feel and quality are great. As far as internals, G&G is way ahead of CA now that I can compare. 360fps out of the box:

"Ball Bearing Gear Box Bushings, Ball Bearing Spring Guide Rod, 6.035mm tightbore"

I thought the whole plastic hopup would be a downfall but really, it shot better then any stock CA ive owned. So what im saying is.. sure you can get a stock CA and be happy, which you will probably end up upgrading or swapping parts.. or you can buy a G&G with a decent fps out of the box, internals that will last and tightbore with no need of upgrading. For the price, depending on the variant of the rifle you'll find they're nearly the same. Its your choice though.

CA bodies will always have a place in my heart

CA on the other hand I have had trouble with their internals.. coulda been lemons etc but one was piston trouble and the 2nd was gear trouble. At the same time like explained, some will go many thousands of rounds with little to no wear. Trouble aside, i'd buy another CA again as well.. it just depends what might work best for you out of the box.

Like it's been said, CA bodies are really nice. Their bodies are usually the heaviest, highest quality finish you can get short of PTWs. However, my experience with their internals has been pretty negative - many swear by them, but I'd be much more comfortable with a G&G for parts reliability and finish. Oh yeah, and CA's compatibility with other brands is a complete joke.

What? Where does it say CA uses Aluminium? Care to back that up with reliable sources? I've heard CA having tolerance issues, too. Hell, I've experienced it first hand. You're almost always risking a crap shoot when you start mixing brands.

I'd lean towards CA being slightly better built than G&G, but G&G being great for its price (~$50-$100 less than the same CA). Tolerance issues on G&G is mostly with sub-components of furnitures being loose, i.e. charging handle, rear sight dials, etc. Otherwise, it's structurally very solid. No bloody body tabs to break, the upper receiver has a large lip that locks into the lower receiver. The negative stuff about its mag release design is overblown and led to me buying an unnecessary replacement. It also have little weird issues like an intentionally bad buffer tube design that doesn't support most AR sling adaptors.

Internally, I've had no issues with using aftermarket parts thus far, after (unnecessarily, for the most part) replacing the hop sleeve and cylinder assembly. G&G v2 mechbox is better built than the earlier CA v3 I had in my G36, I can tell you that. Inside the mechbox, you're looking at basically the same type of upgrades CA offers, so they shoot more or less alike. Note, while the G&G box is shimmed pretty decently, its lubing is poor.

Ultimately, it might be more of an aesthetic difference than anything else. CA is black, G&G is grey.

I'm trying to find the time and effort to write a comprehensive review of my GR16A3.

Ah yes I did forget to mention that the G&G mag catch basically fell apart after only a day of gaming. Which led to G&G sending me a brand new differently designed one from their warehouse over seas. Definitely change the mag catch to one that has the little allen key screw on the release button, it makes installing it and taking your body/mechbox apart that much easier.

Actually, what I meant was that you shouldn't bother replacing the stock mag catch unless it's defective. Mine worked fine and it's no more difficult to work with than the tiny screw variety.

Is yours the 3 piece pressed type or the 2 piece? I agree though.. don't replace it unless there really is an obvious problem out of the box.

It was the 2 piece, on a GR16A3.

One real problem with G&G is that there can be small unexpected changes between models that you wouldn't expect to find such changes, or even within a model. Mostly we're talking about parts changing for the better. The glass is half-empty crowd would say that it represents the fact that G&G has to keep fixing things. The glass if half-full crowd would say that G&G is dedicated to continuously improving its products. In either case, G&G has shown that its willing to stand behind its products.
